Yeah I don't trust them either and both of them likely will be expensive. I could see Bard once changing roles or coming to a different team not being as dominant as he was. Would prefer Robertson if I had a choice between the two, though not crazy about the both of them. They both could come in and be dumpster fires over the final two months.

I don't think either of those guys would be expensive, especially Robertson as a rental and he's old, there's your Jason Grilli comp but better. ;)

Finnegan could be another target, problem is lots of teams will be in on these guys mentioned. Hmm...

Robertson would likely be a fine pickup. It looks like his stuff still really plays at this point of his career, the only real cause for concern in the high walk rate.

Apparently the Tigers are willing to move Tarik Skubal prior to the trade deadline. Skubal and Jimenez would be a sexy (but expensive) package for the Jays.

Lange would fit really well also..

My point is the Nats didn't go out and build a lock down bullpen. Doolittle was awful in 2019 (4.25 FIP, 5.08 xFIP), as was Rainey (7.08 BB/9!!!). That bullpen was way shittier than the Jays current pen. It just so happened that those 2, along with Hudson got hot at the right time and when combined with Corbin pitching from the pen and Stras & Max going deep into games, they were able to win with a different formula than the common formula you see these days were starters go 4-5 and then the pen locks down the 5-9th inning. The Nats did go into it with a completely different strategy and were aided by some of their best bullpen arms peaking at the right time.

Of course this also destroyed Stras and Corbin...I seemingly forgot that Stras is essentially dead now. Man did he get paid just in the nick of time!

Lol. Ya. But he was a nasty wild thing with 14K/9 at least. I think it's fair that 2019 was an exception since 14/15. Basically they made the case if your starters are really good you can get by with at least a hot if not great pen. Backed up by decent offence.

That's surprising that the Tigers would entertain moving Skubal, he would seem to be more of a long term rotation building block that you would want to build around. Plus they made several expensive win now type moves in the offseason so this doesn't seem to fit the direction they appeared to be moving in.

Makes zero sense, heck, I didn't think Soto would be available, but here we are.

Skubal hasn't looked good this year though, no?

In what way?

He has a 2.93 FIP. Kings ransom to get him.

It would take the Berrios package times two.

Jays don't have two workhorses like Scherzer and Stras.

As for Stras, the 2019 didn't destroy him. He was always fragile to begin with and babied before, and I'm sure the 2020 season messed him up along with many other starters in terms of preparation and training for the shortened season. Like you said lucky he cashed in at the right time. Even remember, Verlander missed all of 2020 and 2021. That COVID 2020 season messed up a lot of things.

who knows with Strasburg but the innings record from 2018 to 2019 is spooky

2018: 130 IP - injured with right shoulder inflammation and "cervical nerve impingement"

2019: 245.1 IP if you include the postseason

such a huge jump!!!

and then in 2020 he had that nerve / loss of feeling issue in his hand from the beginning really

maybe that type of jump wouldn't be a big deal for a guy who had a long track record of eating innings but that is of course not Stras

Fair; just eye-test I guess, whenever I saw scoreboard with him pitching, Detroit was losing. Might just be their offense.

Manoah is easily on track for a similar innings jump if the team goes on a post season run. He doesn't have a checkered health history like Strasburg but the team should try to be cautious with his overall inning count as the season goes on.

yeah hopefully they end up comfortable in a playoff spot and can do a bit of load management

Another reason we need a depth starter.

You need someone exactly like that in the playoffs. Do you really want Gurriel or Teo out there in a one run save situation in game 5 of the DS? Or what if Kirk singles to leadoff the ninth in a tied game? Do you still not want someone fast to come into to run for him?

Both of those guys have been completely fine in the Outfield for years now lol. They play all 8 other innings but are going to spontaneously combust during the 9th. It’s completely useless roster spot unless you can’t find anything better. Sure if you have a better OF use him. But Zimmer is not important in anyway.

So why pay for more if you feel that way? Zimmer fills that spot.

Marlins also open for business on everyone minus Alcantara.

I wouldn’t mind taking Tanner Scott from them. Lots of swing and miss from the left side. Some control issues but he would have a much different role here.

He’s just an easy DFA. I would like to see the bench upgraded. A legit pinch hitter option would be nice. Lower priority than pitching ofcourse.

I don't disagree - I was just helping you remember that it happened recently :)
