connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Then why did you use it to defend something that nobody is attacking? Strawman arguments are fun I was reacting to the claim that there was a less than 1 WAR diffemce between them, and therefore the suggestion it was basically meaningless. So not a strawman

So not a strawman Should probably consider the source of the person who made that claim. And also what he actually said, not the twisted version that you inferred
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 My troll positions clearly defined before season started: 1) Hated RG trade 2) Cavan Smallgio is awful (had this position since opening day last year when I saw him make a throw from 3b) 3) Freeman signing + Vlad to 3rd would’ve been glorious and >>>> to Chapman signing Other than that, I’m a positive fan
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Well… and honestly I preferred Ray to Gausman but was not close-minded to Gausman. I was a Gausman fanboy always targeting him in fantasy drafts for many years. This is documented
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Glad we all agree that Grichuk is easily better than Tapia. When Grichuk is going well, you ride him... when he's struggling, you're lucky he's your 4th OFer so you can bench him. Sounds like a win win to keeping him. Oh except for Rogers who got to save 5M next year lol. Now what I expect to happen is the Jays will make a big trade near the deadline to take on salary, which will shut me up. Until then, wah wah wah because it was a bad short term move.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 spo youve gone full troll? Good to know. WAR doesnt need to quantify what it means to have a stuggling hitter where a .900 OPS hitter should be. That's not what it's for. If you want to attack something, you should probably have a basic idea of what that thing is. Otherwise you just look foolish. Are you now on record as saying that Randall Grichuk is a .900 OPS hitter?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Are you now on record as saying that Randall Grichuk is a .900 OPS hitter? As of May 3rd 2022, sure he has an OPS over .900. At season's end... doubtful
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 As of May 3rd 2022, sure he has an OPS over .900. At season's end... doubtful A lot of stupid statistical nonsense can happen in a 72 PA sample size. I know you know that, but it's something that literally everyone should understand.
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Wasn't there an element of Grichuk not fitting in well enough in the clubhouse or sulking because of limited playing time that made management move him before it could manifest into a real problem? Small sample size numbers aside, there is probably more to this than might be readily apparent.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Holy f***, everyone needs to relax. The season is 24 games old combined with the toughest schedule and key injuries and we're still 15-9. Come back at the end of May and start talking. This^^^

Ross did him a solid by trading him to Colorado

I know Hurl knows several guys in T.O and around ball. It's true.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 I was driving back from my kids soccer game. Radio announcer. I wonder if they'll pinch run for Kirk. Seems like a good spot. Nope they're going to leave him in. Heineman double and Kirk is held at third. That's sort of why I thought they might pinch run for Kirk. Seems like Zimmer would have scored pretty easy there and it is the 7th inning. f*** Charlie! My thoughts exactly. If Zimmer isn't even going to be used appropriately to pinch run in late innings then he really has no place on the roster.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 That's the consequences of having a minor league manager. Can someone post a game day thread so I can complain about Tapia hitting 5th in a proper spot!

If Zimmer isn't even going to be used appropriately to pinch run in late innings then he really has no place on the roster. I dont know if he would have scored on that ball. Judge has a strong arm. But that's kind of beside the point. I think Zimmer has something like 90th percentile speed. Faster than Tapia. Great spot to use his limited skills in a tight game. We should have taken the shot to add that speed.

It'd probably be a send in that scenario, and the big guy has to be accurate to catch Zimmer, this is what I thought he Zimm's on this team for, frustrating.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Can someone post a game day thread so I can complain about Tapia hitting 5th in a proper spot! lol... he should be hitting 9th, every damn time.

Stanton had the ball, not Judge. But I think he has a good arm too. I agree though, not a slam dunk the runner scores there. It would have been close. I don’t think Charlie makes the mistake of not pinch running for Kirk again. Its funny how that ended up potentially being the difference in the game, Charlie NOT pinch running for Kirk immediately followed by Boone pinch running for Stanton in the 9th.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Soon as Kirk landed on 1B I was wondering who would come in to PR. Ah well, second guessing the manager when it doesn't go right isn't exactly fair.

Ah well, second guessing the manager when it doesn't go right isn't exactly fair. Yeah nobody was really screaming for a pinch runner there until he got held at 3rd. I get not wanting to pinch run right away in a tie game with the team’s propensity for hitting into double plays. In hindsight sure he should’ve just gone for it with the PR. I don’t think he’ll make that mistake again with Kirk.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Didn't you see Kirk running the bases yesterday? He's a speedster! I think we’re all fully aware now that he’s extremely slow. Nothing like Vladdy where he’s sneaky fast for his size. Kirk is exactly as slow as you’d expect him to be at first glance.
