Crazy thing is the Gurriel ball actually had an xBA of .290, and the Chapman ball had an xBA of .950.

 

Well that's strange. I'd love to see an explanation of that one.

They go to Phelps way too soon. He should be considered a late inning guy.

XBA doesnt take shifting or any defensive positioning into account, just LA, EV and distance

I don't mind using him to face the top of the order and going back to Thornton or Richards for the bottom half.

Yes of course. That's why it's puzzling to see a harder hit ball in the same spot have a lower xBA. Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly and they were different.

It's because Chapman's was a little looping liner which almost always goes over the defense whereas Gurriel's was a groundball.
