Dallas Keuchel DFA

 

I loved Keuchel in his days with the Astros. Was elite for a couple of seasons. I think he's done now, unless he catches on with an NL team and moves into a very pitcher friendly park.

Teams have figured him out. I think his best bet is to turn into a long reliever, think his starting days are behind him.

If not for the $$$ owed on his contract I would have liked for Pete to have a shot at him. There could still be something there as a long reliever.

Well I’m assuming nobody claims him so he’ll just be a FA making league Min, right?

If you claim him off waivers you would have to eat the balance of what he is owed this year. Around $14million I think. If he clears he would get league minimum.

What about short relief?? Maybe he gets a couple extra ticks on the fastball out of the pen. He’s a lefty.

Even if Keuchel gained a few ticks of velocity he still wouldn't crack 90 MPH, not sure that's much of a recipe for success as a reliever in today's MLB.

Hard to say, could be the weather heating up, and a lot of day games this past week. We saw the ball die a lot in LA for both teams, but that could be the marine layer out in Cali. I sure hope they ditched that ball, not a fan at all.

Fair enough if he thought the call was wrong pal(I thought it was a strike too) but doing that with the ump is not going to accomplish anything. I guess I just like how rugby does it lol; you can't even give the ref a hateful look in that sport without getting tossed lol.

I don't know rugby but policies that like can work if most every call is subjective, because a culture of disputing calls leads to a bad product. Like the whining in basketball about officiating, and flopping, on every play is just awful to watch.

 

But with pitching and balls/strikes it's objective. It was either in or out. On a macro level maybe the pitchers getting upset from time to time could help things change for the better... be that robo umps or just umps assessing their own processes better or policing each other better. Like, if the ump is egregiously wrong they should be put on the spot.

This is the first I hear about it being verboten for an umpire to walk towards a pitcher to communicate with them.
