I’ll take the W, but I sure wish that was 8 in a row. That Friday loss hurt.

Mariners games are blacked out here so can’t watch the next series.

Games #1 and 4 in the streak were miracle wins though. It does go both ways (though the BP has still chucked a few too many)

Looked like a badly broken ankle to me.

If so, it's definitely not just a broken ankle.

The extended highlight show his upper leg completely separated from his lower leg.

I made a small clip of it but DO NOT CLICK THIS if you're queasy or easily unsettled.

That could just be his pants.

Actually, looking at it more, I think NJH is right. Looks like the weird stuff going on around his knee is just an optical illusion with his pants.

Most likely just a broken ankle like bronson originally speculated.

Yeah I'm certain the damage is all knee and down. After the collision he is actually up on his knees briefly. If his femur was broken that wouldn't be possible.

But with how he crushed his lower leg it could be a few things. Broken ankle and leg, maybe knee damage.

You see this type of injury in hockey fairly often because the toe of the skate can pick into the ice and trap the leg under the body. You don't see this often in baseball but I think we've seen it on some poorly performed feet first slides. Stephen Drew?

I really have the give the bullpen a lot of credit today. Murphy came in and shut down an Oriole's rally, and then when he faltered Mayza came in to put out the fire. Castro looked absolutely dominant today, every once in a while he shows glimpses of being an end of the bullpen monster, but then he gets hit around the next few times out. Romano has been amazing, but he's only one man down there. It's great that he may finally be getting a bit of help to shut down the opposition.

For the record, this is what Bruce Dreckman's zone from yesterday looked like.

Spoiler: It's as hilariously bad as it seemed.

This was one of the worst umpiring displays in recent memory. Is there a way to look up how this compares historically to other terribly called games?

It was a bad game I agree and I was infuriated watching the game but it wasn't even close to the worst performance this year. Which says more about how bad umpires have been than anything.

Yeah that's a sad statement about the state of umpiring when a game that bad isn't near the top of bad performances. During the latest Baltimore series the Joe West "performance" was actually worse for accuracy which is hard to believe. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the amount of distance these missed calls were in or out of the strike zone was among the worse though. He called a lot of pitches that were 4+ inches out of the strike zone strikes, and plenty of pitches that were inside of the strike zone by several inches balls as well. This was one of the smallest strike zones vertically I can recall yet it was super wide at the same time. Good luck figuring out what's supposed to be a ball or a strike when you are a hitter with this type of umpire behind the plate.

It was relatively even but it was still one of the worst games of the season.

Go to the link you quoted: https://umpscorecards.com/site-data/games.html

And click on the column header for "Total Run Impact" until it is sorted into a descending order. That game had the third most umpire sway of the season.

It just happened that the horrible calls evened out for both teams.

According to that site, already this season there have been 94 games where the ump was wrong more than 10% of the time. There's simply no argument to NOT use roboumps.

There isn't, infuriating how stubborn the league is. get rid of the Pitchers hitting in the NL too why we are at it.
