Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 I think you might be right. So Tapia plays a little more, probably LF and CF. Its seeming like Kirk will be catching fairly often, he was catching Gausman today plus I believe he catches Manoah? Possibly Berrios too since they both speak Spanish. Seeming like Jansen and Kirk will be splitting catching duties roughly 50/50, hopefully with Kirk DHing when he isn’t behind the plate.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 I think that's fair, Barring injuries I just don't see any situation where you want him starting. If Springer is DHing then Tapia plays CF. If Gurriel/Teo DH's Tapia or Biggio plays LF/RF. If Chapman/Bo/Biggio DH's then Espinal plays 3B/SS/2B. If Vladdy is DHing then I probably want Gurriel/Teo at 1st, and Tapia/Biggio playing OF. If Collins makes the roster then that could also be a spot for him to fill in at 1st. You pretty much need 2 starters sitting to find any situation where Katoh starts. So is he a pinch runner/defensive replacement until someone gets hurt? Injuries are a thing. Someone will get injured at some point and Katoh could get several starts.

I get that, and I mentioned prior that they have to have 4 bench guys by May anyway. Was Katoh unwilling to go to Buffalo and wait until injuries/May to arrive? Was he loved so much by the front office that they weren't willing to lose him if he wasn't? I guess so. I just don't see it. I would have used the final roster spot on another pen arm until then.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 What ever happened to Elvis Luciano? Was he not at camp?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 I think they released him. They released him August but I believe they repicked him up.

Lots of posts on some small subreddit trying to give people swing tips.

Hope he does well It's interesting that Katoh put up the same AAA WRC+ that Bird did last season and was within 8 points of OPS for the spring as well. Hopefully this success translates at least a little bit to MLB. I haven't seen the guy play much so have no idea what his range is like but his 2021 minor league defensive stats show he's at least sure handed as he committed only a single error across the various positions he manned.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Gosuke Katoh instead of Collins. So Katoh it is, sad Bird didn't make it, ah well onto April 8th!

They released him August but I believe they repicked him up. Yes, they released him to get him off the 40, he passed through waivers and Jays signed and reassigned him to AA, he then got hurt cutting his season short. He'll likely start there again this season.
