BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I didn't mean that kind of lineup? I meant literally standing beside each other...all wearing T-shirts that say 'I'm a Professional Athlete' We call that an offensive line in football.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 We call that an offensive line in football. It's offensive for baseball too.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 The only comparison between Tellez and Vogelbach is they are both big and both hit left handed. Dramatically different hitters. Vogelbach walks a ton and doesn’t chase. Rowdy never walks and chases everything.

Rowdy is making more contact this year though so his K/BB is significantly better. Vogelbach is actually extremely passive. Fans of the M's will probably tell you he is too passive. It's interesting because there is some utility to being aggressive. Bo Bichette is extremely aggressive and Cavan Biggio is the opposite and both are quite good. Tellez and Vogelbach are similar to those two when it comes to some plate discipline stats.

Vogelbach doesn't swing at bad pitches and he's a league average hitter. He doesn't have a very good swing. Rowdy swings at a bunch of garbage and is a league average hitter. He has a much more athletic swing. If Rowdy can develop some better plate discipline he could be a great hitter. I think it's going to be harder for Vogelbach to be much better than league average.

Oh believe me I’m not even remotely excited about the trade. I just think its a lazy comparison. The only way I’m looking at it is hes a much better pinch hitter option then Joe Panik.

You think Tellez golf swinging at breaking balls in the dirt is athletic?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2020 Author Posted August 24, 2020 You think Tellez golf swinging at breaking balls in the dirt is athletic? I've always thought that Tellez' swing, physically speaking, looks like David Ortiz'. Banning myself for saying that in 5 minutes
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 You think Tellez golf swinging at breaking balls in the dirt is athletic? I said he needs to improve his plate discipline...lol That comes with major league at bats for some, less so for others. I'm not sure how Rowdy will progress. Vogelbach doesn't swing at bad pitches and he has a career .196 batting average. That is concerning to me.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I've always thought that Tellez' swing, physically speaking, looks like David Ortiz'. Banning myself for saying that in 5 minutes lol plz self report.

Banning myself for saying that in 5 minutes I think the same thing. He just has to learn to lay off bad pitches. He is making contact. His strike outs are down. The tools are there. The final piece is getting into good counts and laying off garbage. That is a final step that some never get to.

EastCoaster Verified Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 watch some tape, meat stick. the swings are hilariously similar There's no similarity was so ever in between both swing Ortiz is smooth a fluid with a high leg kick with steady hands while Rowdy has more of jerky motion with low leg kick with some hand movement at the top. The only similarities are with follow through yeah watch the tapes I can tell a huge difference between both swing if you can't see the difference then this is pointless. Ortiz was one of the most feared hitters in baseball who could hit for avg with a high OBP and key in clutch situations. Just because both has a long follow through in their swings doesn't make them similar whatsoever.

Now it’s clear - you have the reading comprehension of a parrot and think I said that Rowdy Tellez is good.

I think you're a fool picking a fight with a newly minted mod that's well on your way to earning yourself a timeout.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 No I think you're a bonehead that made a stupid statement and cannot face the reality before you plain and simple. You didn't actually touch on any of the things you would actually use to compare swings. Posture, the angles created, shoulder turn, swing path. Papi had a much larger leg kick and his hands dipped a bit lower before bringing them up, but the two both have a very similar inside out uppercut swing. The swing path is very similar. Rowdy's is a bit more compact. Rowdy is herky jerky...give me a break.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2020 Author Posted August 25, 2020 No I think you're a bonehead that made a stupid statement and cannot face the reality before you plain and simple. I clearly admitted that comparing their swings was silly by saying I should ban myself. They do look similar though. Someone could put together a gif side by side and on certain swings it's uncanny.
M.E. Verified Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 He has to be excited to move from a forever crap team to a team on the rise. Hopefully that helps rejuvenate the bat
