Agreed on Jansen/McGuire. I don't know if the Indians would deal Quantrill for Manoah though. At the very least it would be close. He was a higher ranked prospect and just hasn't been utilized properly by the Padres. The elite stuff is still there for him.

The Indians are good and want 2020+2021 contributors so you're probably right but ignoring context I think Manoah is the more valuable asset.

Arias = Orelvis

But it's like Grant has designed a trade which could result in a Noah Syndergard and Fernando Tatis JR situation in one trade. It's a trade that could be the worst ever.

Orelvis's chances of being Fernando Tatis jr are still there, stats wise he is ahead of Tatis, and with Vlad as a 17 year old.

Arias is the same age as Fernando Tatis jr.

Edit - Arias is the same age as Fernando Tatis jr was when he debuted as a fully fledged legend on day 1 at bat 1.

I guess Arias could also be a legend at 20 and we don't know it because there is no minor league season for him to hit .350 over and force his way up...

Four high ceiling teenagers and 2 high ceiling 25 year olds?? That seems crazy. I don't know if I've seen a trade with multiple high ceiling teenagers going the other way.

Seems to me every player the Padres traded is like the 2 year floor of the ones you suggested. Like the trade would make sense if all these players stagnate for a couple years and their value is down.

More comparable trade is probably

Kay

Manoah

Jansen

Hiraldo

Jimenez

The Padres 7th ranked prospect was a shortstop and so was ours. Their system is actually better than ours. My comparison didn't go any further than that.

The Oakland A's have acquired left-hander Mike Minor from the Texas Rangers for two players to be named later, sources tell ESPN. A's needed rotation help and get it with a trade for Minor, who's a free agent after this season.

This is that time in deadline day where we start to think that maybe Toronto won't do anything.

That might be disappointing but I would be fine if they don't make a trade today.

- They already made a decent splash with Walker. His first start should be a good illustration of how much that will help the team.

- They are very likely to be the 8th playoff team no matter what. Small to medium additions are not going to move the needle much on their playoff odds against the elite teams.

- It's very difficult to add controllable, impact talent as you can see from the hefty prices for Austin Nola and Clevinger.

- The team should not be in the process of spending large from the farm to compete in the short term. They are not in the same position as the Padres. The core + the serious prospects should be kept intact for a few years.

Hopefully Shatkins is locking in on Lance Lynn. Texas is in shambles. But we absolutely need a lineup addition. Whether its Asdrubel or Villar or both because honestly why not both.

I think we can get by with our pitching. Walker was a big upgrade, I'm optimistic Shoemaker and Pearson will be back to provide a boost.

Getting a guy like Villar would be a big help and hopefully take Panik away from Montoyo.

I think that Atkins has a couple of minor deals for a pitcher and infielder in his back pocket. It makes some sense to wait on them until he has fully explored the deals for the big name players.

The last thing I want for us is to overpay for a rental to make a 8th seed run in the playoffs. Doesn't make sense in the beginning of our window.

Dylan Bundy won't be traded according to Buster Olney.

Guess that makes sense for a team in desperate need of SP that’s always thinking next year they’ll compete.

Unless someone was prepared to blow their load for Bundy never made much sense to me for the Angels to move him. They desperately need to put together a competent rotation. Hes gotta be apart of next seasonÂ’s rotation. And they need to add multiple pieces to that.

The Angels rotation is such a mess. Rendon was a dumb signing

I mean, sure because they still suck, but Rendon is f***ing amazing. I think it was an amazing signing. I wish the Jays signed him to that contract.

Shi mentions on Blue Jays Central that the Jays are still looking to add to the rotation and infield. Says Toronto has kept in touch with the Pirates (Trevor Williams?).

Poor Trout is never going to get a WS with that mess of a team.

Pit has some interesting guys that can help add to our arms and make our bench better

Musgrove, Williams and Kuhl are all different varying degrees of interesting.

I like Erik Gonzalez. He's a + Defender all around the infield. Could fill in nicely for Bo for a couple weeks then be a nice bench piece.

Adam Frazier has been bad this year but is a big upgrade over Panik IMO. Can play 2B and OF.

Gonzalez and Frazier aren't great players by any means but both are definite upgrades over Drury + Panik.

All 5 guys mentioned have 2 more years of control after this year too.

Not sure what the price for any of them would be, but I could see the Pirates trying to dump some money too.

The Angels have 3 pieces in place for their 2020 rotation: Bundy, Heaney, and Canning should all be viable starters next year. They'll also have Ohtani, ostensibly. They're one addition away from not having a terrible group:

Bauer/Stroman/trade acquisition

Ohtani

Bundy

Heaney

Canning

Sandoval/Suarez/Barria/Andriese

That's not a bad group. Especially when you have Trout, Rendon, and to a lesser extent Fletcher and Ohtani (DH) already in place.

I read an article this spring how about Robbie Ray had shorted up his arm motion (ala Joe Kelley, Trevor Bauer) this offseason and how he thought that would lead to vastly improved control.

That hasn't materialized at all and he's been f***ing awful this year. I wonder if he's still sticking to it, or if he bailed and went back to his old motion.

I think he's a complete wild card that shouldn't have cost much at all.
