Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I don't get the big deal. NBA and NHL playoffs are 16 teams too, i guess the lower seeds realistically have no chance of winning, so people that think this is a bad idea think its a waste of time? I think most of us feel like too many teams make the playoffs in those leagues and that baseball's playoffs being harder to make made them more meaningful along with the games leading up to them.

It’s not a big deal, it’s for this season only and makes total sense given the 60 game crapshoot schedule to try and recover some revenue. It’s not like this will be in place very year
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Baseball has as much upset potential as the NHL playoffs. Seems like NBA is the only sport you know whose going to be in the final 4. Rarely ever upsets if ever. If you see the Yankees get upset in the first round you will see a quick halt to the 16 team playoff format for Baseball.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 America loves average teams having a chance to win it all. It's the American dream In the NBA the average team has no chance of winning. The NFL rarely sees an 8-8 team make the playoffs and that's almost always due to a weak division. The NHL is as Canadian as it is American. Really this quote is way more apt for Canada. The easiest playoffs to make are the CFL playoffs where everyone but the 3-15 teams make it.
