Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Passan is taking heat for saying that the Reds announcer said fag lol And guess who is at the center of it. Jen Big Mac Uranus Ramos lol... he quoted the guy, holy f***. f*** that beeeyatch!
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 You're not allowed to reference words in context now? Talk about trying to look for an excuse to be offended. What a stupid ****.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 What the f*** does being a man of faith have to do with anything lmao. Castellanos launched that ball into the "Judgement Free Zone" while he was apologizing on air lol.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Hahaha... Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer recorded the final out of a one-hit shutout and 5-0 victory over the Royals in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader and peeled his jersey off before greeting catcher Curt Casali. Bauer wanted to show off his custom white T-shirt underneath that depicted a moment from the last time he pitched at Kauffman Stadium. In his final start for Cleveland before his July 31, 2019, trade to Cincinnati, an angry Bauer fired a baseball toward the center-field fountains at the Kansas City ballpark upon being pulled from the game. "I get a lot of people online that have quips and all this stuff about ‘go throw another temper tantrum’ or whatever the case is," Bauer said. "I thought it’d be an appropriate little ode to that moment. If you can’t laugh at yourself and make fun of yourself a little bit, life is going to get pretty long and tough."
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Padres hit another GS!!! Some excellent at bats there by Tatis and Machado
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 How much does Bauer get if he continues this dominance (say FIP ~2.40 or lower) and goes through with his promise to sign only one-year deals? 1/$42M? That's probably high as he hasn't been a very consistent player.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Johnny Bench on the Yankees broadcast last night. The change away from most of these things are probably a generation away. Once the current players start managing. Linc wrote them all out yesterday, so I can confirm this is true.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Passan is taking heat for saying that the Reds announcer said fag lol And guess who is at the center of it. Jen Big Mac Uranus Ramos These people absolutely love it when someone says fag. It's like just the mention of it activates that dopamine hit. "s***, a chance to be a victim, fapfapfap". How Thom Brennaman feels about groups of people is his business but for f*** sakes man, keep it to yourself. That was dumb. He is going to be cancelled so hard, punishment won't fit the crime as he's now in the untouchable caste.

There's calling someone a fag, and reporting that someone called someone a fag. It's not "a gay slur" it's "fag". That's what Brennaman said. It's not Passan's job to ensure he doesn't offend Big Mac.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Probably? I'd be pretty shocked if he got half that. 21 million would be equally shocking on the low side. Cole Hamels just got 18 million at age 36. Bauer should certainly approach or exceed 30 million, even with teams spending less.

I don’t think any team is gonna be inking expensive contracts next season with all the revenue losses suffered this year. Probably gonna be lots of free agents taking 1 year/25 mil pillow contracts
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Pujols tied ARod for 2nd all time RBis And he's 1 HR shy of tying Mays for 5th in HRs If the Angels are f***ed in this wack season they'll just let him try to hit a few more I guess

I hope he retires after this season. It's sad to see such a legend play this poorly.

I don't think he's in danger of not making it in, but I think he may be in danger of not making it in first ballot.

Bauer should certainly approach or exceed 30 million, even with teams spending less. If he's only signing 1 year deals, age is mostly irrelevant. He's signed for $17.5 this year, and I can't see teams giving any player $30M AAV (and make no mistake, that's how teams will view this, as AAV) for 2021 at all. I just don't see how Trevor Bauer gets the 7th highest contract for a pitcher ever. He's been a very good, bordering great, pitcher in his career, but outside of 2018, he's been basically sub Marcus Stroman career wise (and Stroman is younger). That's not a dude to whom a competent front office gives $30M+.

That's not a dude to whom a competent front office gives $30M+. You are not correct. Let's take an easy, relatable example. https://www.uline.ca/Product/Detail/S-1719/Indestructo-Mailers/4-x-4-x-4-White-Indestructo-Mailers As you can see, buying 100 bundles of mailer boxes costs $86 per bundle. Buying 1000+ costs $59 per bundle. Why? You're being incentivized to buy more, therefore ensuring that U-Line gets more money, even if they had to discount the boxes. Baseball contracts are exactly the same. One year of Bauer is very little risk, and you pay a premium for that. If you give him more years, the AAV goes down accordingly, as risk is transferred from the player to the team. So no, no one would consider Bauer signing for 1/30 to be the 7th highest pitcher contract of all time. They are literally never measured that way.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 What's with Machado in SD? Is he really just a slightly above average hitter now? Is 2017 and 2019 more in line with his true talent? His statcast numbers are awful this year - well below 2017 and 2019

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 https://www.mlb.com/news/clayton-kershaw-velocity-increase-2020 Nice little article on Kershaw, who may have regained some velo this year. I was looking at Kershaw's numbers and they are f***ing insane. I was shocked to see his ERA was only 3.06 last year (first year over 3.00 since his rookie year in 2008!). I'll be honest, I probably only pay attention to him when he's in the playoffs and he's looks 'cooked' the past couple of years. It seems like he's using smoke and mirrors, but evidently, he's still getting the job done.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 His BABIP is .229 Also SSS What's SSS? The 108 wRC+ he posted in 661 PA's last year, combined with the 104 wRC+ he's posted this year? Or the Statcast data? When I suggested Vlad's statcast data was actually pretty disappointing, I was told the results of 19 games from this season matter because they stabilize quickly.

He has 4849 PA for his career. The results for 114 PA for this year so far should be given little weight. His career wRC+ is 118, I would use that as his "true talent level". With the big contract maybe it drops to 110 or so from Manny playing below his talent level.
