Slade Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Have you ever known the Yankees to give up anything of value in a trade. Go back and look at their transactions for the last 5 years. Name one piece of value they have ever given up That is an excellent organization I know you like to troll but you're not wrong about that.
wamco Verified Member Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 FTFY. If the season started tomorrow our rotation could be Anderson, Shoemaker, Thornton, Kay, Borucki, with Pearson and Merryweather joining later on, and depth like Hatch, Waguespack and Perez. That’s not a playoff rotation but it’s not “nobody” either. - it’s actually the definition of nobody
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I know you like to troll but you're not wrong about that. Off the top of my head, he's traded Nick Solak, Taylor Widener, Giovanny Gallegos, Caleb Smith, and the Garrett Cooper in recent memory. Surely there are others if I cared enough to prove a troll be trolling.

That’s all i got though

Next time, “I think the ceiling would be higher" Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith As for 2020, Shapiro said “We will add players and we will get better.” #BlueJays are “not going to spend it just to spend it” but have the flexibility to go beyond 2019 payroll if needed
jerb Verified Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Rob Longley @longleysunsport "We need to get back to winning." - #Bluejays president Mark Shapiro making it clear the team "needs to be better" in 2020. More to come from his comments here in San Diego. Rob Longley @longleysunsport Shapiro acknowledged that season-ticket renewals are soft and that he would expect attendance at the Rogers Centre to remain in the 1.7 million range of last season.

Todd Verified Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Basically the blue jays will not be adding to pay roll this year. Even thou they have the money to spend.
Todd Verified Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Smart thing for the jays to do is sign Yoshitomo Tsutsugo and Edwin. Plus to starters and two bullpen pitchers
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Smart thing for the jays to do is sign Yoshitomo Tsutsugo and Edwin. Plus to starters and two bullpen pitchers Yoshi would make Edwin superfluous. Also, several people on the team already make Edwin superfluous. They should absolutely not sign Edwin.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Yoshi would make Edwin superfluous. Also, several people on the team already make Edwin superfluous. They should absolutely not sign Edwin. They absolutely should not have a fat pile for a DH who rarely gets on base and is a terrible defender.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 They absolutely should not have a fat pile for a DH who rarely gets on base and is a terrible defender. Edwin's OBP was .344 last year, and it's .352 for his career. That's not why he shouldn't be on the team. Positional flexibility is why he shouldn't be on the team. He'd be a fine guy to have as a pinch hitter in the NL, or on a team where a strict DH was needed on a 1 year deal. The Jays are neither of those things.

The Jays are neither of those things. I'll take upgrades wherever we can get them. I'd prefer keeping the DH spot open, but if it means adding a 30 home run guy who gets on base as opposed to a Pillar type bat, I'll gladly take Edwin.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 The Jays need to keep DH open for Vlad, who they will probably load manage throughout the season depending on what shape he is in. I wouldn't mind Edwin if the team was a middle of the order bat away from contention, but right now, nah. Tsutsugo would make sense if they think he has upside since he fits the team's timeline, but a 37 year old DH is the last thing the Jays need.
