Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I know it's the O's, but I've liked what I've seen from Jacob Waguespack this season. He seems like one of those pitchers who could give you 2 or 3 years of decent backend rotation production. yes he has been fairly solid. i see him as either a back end starter or solid middle reliever, depending on the Jays need
Ray Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Tellez has quietly been having a good-ish September: .241/.354/.519, .872 OPS, before that HR. Nice to see him get that OBP up.
Ray Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 By all accounts a great guy, but I'll be very glad to watch a McGuire/Jansen combo instead of Maile next season.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Bucko also made a good point, most of the teams he's faced this year have all been playoff contenders That is surprisingly true. 55 of his 72 innings coming into this game have been against NYY, BOS, TAM, ATL, and LAD. At least we know he can dominate s***** teams.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Rowdy... lets give him away!
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Shut Vladdy down for the year, he's already checked out.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Disappointing season for a generational talent. Hopefully he comes back next season with a better attitude.

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I'm curious to see what the return on Giles is this off-season
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 3Ks on 10 pitches ain't too shabby.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Author Posted September 26, 2019 Shut Vladdy down for the year, he's already checked out. All things considered, I was looking at his counting stats today, and they're better than I would've guessed. Solid total of homers and Ribbies, decent average, good OBP. Pretty damn good showing from a rook. The defense has been the only real disappointing thing for me, and most of us anticipated that it might be a problem. I think they should at least split him at 3rd and 1st next year, try and transition him there going forward while still giving Tellez a look.
wk680 Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Disappointing season for a generational talent. Hopefully he comes back next season with a better attitude. I hate to break it to you, BUT a generational talent does not result from dominating on the minor leagues. Only after they have done it at the major league level, do they deserve that descriptor. Until then, they are only top prospects who may or may not meet expectations when they get to The Show. Other sports are no different, with plenty of top NFL, NHL, NBA picks crapping the bed. That said, Vlad is only 20 and he could very well become a beast at the plate (it took Devers a while after coming up in a similar way as a 20 yo dominating AAA). The difference with Devers is he could be a little bit out of the limelight that Betts, J.D., et al were occupying. Vlad suffers from being the Jays 'great hope' on a team rebuilding mostly from scratch - too much pressure on a 20 yo 'kid'.
Ray Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Vlad Jr. has a 107 wRC+ in his age 20 season as a rookie. That's either on par with or better than: - Roberto Alomar (107 wRC+) - Miguel Cabrera (106 wRC+) - Andruw Jones (96 wRC+) - Ron Santo (92 wRC+) - Rickey Henderson (91 wRC+) I'm sure he'll be fine offensively. I'm just hoping he takes his conditioning somewhat seriously and shows up in shape next Spring.

Good info BUT remember (as far as I know) wRC+ does not include baserunning so comparisons to Ricky Henderson and Alomar are maybe not appropriate. I agree, his key is to drop some flab and show up ready to go. His play at 3B remains a big concern.

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Vomit inducing lineup. Still better than the Os.

Yes it has...if anyone would have predicted these numbers for vlad would have been laughed at in preseason. Projections and nearly everyone had him having more impact. His D is terrible too. He is only 20 though still decent numbers but certainly never matched the hype/expectations.

Jaysareus Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 With McKinney Alford and Davis doing great replacing bichette could the jays entertain trading bichette for pitching help this offseason?
wk680 Verified Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 With McKinney Alford and Davis doing great replacing bichette could the jays entertain trading bichette for pitching help this offseason? Except for the fact that none of them play SS, great thinking
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 What does his attitude have to do with it....? Looking at the stats his patience has gone out the Window in this slump... .230 .260 .290 in September, no homers, 4 walks I don't know if that's attitude or what... One thing that happened earlier this month was he kicked out of a game after a bad strike call... I think he needs to go Biggio... even if it leads to a higher k-rate... swing less, swing fierce. Take border line pitches, if the Ump goes against you deal with it. The idea is to hit 115 mphers with a bit of launch angle. So don't swing at pitches that result in the jam shots and grounders... even if it results in a called strike. I am sure the coaches are telling him this... everyone is telling him this I assume. So maybe he's a bit stubborn in making the adjustments.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 With McKinney Alford and Davis doing great replacing bichette could the jays entertain trading bichette for pitching help this offseason? Dumb or trolling.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 What does his attitude have to do with it....? Fat lazy slob that thinks he doesn't need to put in work to be a great player. Has he ever seen the inside of a gym? The guy sweats from jogging to first and then calls himself safe.
