wk680 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Great win on the road in a tough park. I really hope they look seriously into extending Giles. If they are expecting to be contending for the post-season in 2021, why not keep him - the guy is excelling with the Jays , likes being with the team and has been an excellent team leader down in the BP.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 That's Gardner's rep going against him right there Gardner is the new Bautista Gardner is an excellent player but my god does he whine. Chill out mega mind.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 No 100 loss team this year at least. I got a little worried for a while there.

Have to trade Giles IMO, he's our last valuable asset that is expendable. No guarantee he'll still be elite in 2 years or even interested in an extension that isn't a mega deal.

Last year of his deal, on a team that isn't quite ready to contend, and was traded at the deadline already before Cashman backed out at the last minute. Atkins is going to move him.

Nah, that would be dumb. Relievers, man.
wk680 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Nah, that would be dumb. Relievers, man. This guy is not just a 'reliever'. He has elite stuff and still only 29 yo. OK fine go out and find a dominant closer to acquire in 2 years when this team will hopefully be contending. Yeah that will be expensive in prospect capital -so pay now or pay later. No free lunch. And I sure as f*** wouldn't trust that ass-hat Atkins to get fair value for Giles in an offseason trade -probably will end up with another of his boy-crushes like Drury or Fisher. Now if the Jays actually had a competent GM, yeah then look to trade. Question is what Giles will sign for. I would offer 3/$30M for 2020-22 (includes his last year of 'team control) with a team option of $12M for a 4th year or a 2 M buyout. Pay to play guys.

He's not infallible.

He's not infallible. yes and certainly few players are infallible (other than the few like Trout when healthy). Even Kenley Jansen has been not so great the last couple seasons, and Kimbrel has been putrid in limited action this season. There is certainly risk in signing a closer to a big dollar deal (B.J. Ryan !), but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Last year of his deal, on a team that isn't quite ready to contend, and was traded at the deadline already before Cashman backed out at the last minute. Atkins is going to move him. After signing 2 starters this winter (Roark, Miley) we calculated that the Jays would be a ~86 win team prior to adding a third baseman in 2020. There's really no reason to give up on next season.

Relievers are so volatile they should be the last acquisitions of a team entering the contending phase on the win curve.

Probably 3 more 5th starter types coming this way
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 What an inning for Zeuch. Command your pitches like that consistently and the big man might yet provide some value.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 LOL Joe West needs to retire.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Gardner is an excellent player but my god does he whine. Chill out mega mind. Who cares? People acted like Bautista was a horrible human because of a bat flip and because he saw how bad umps were. They are who they are, Gardner is a hard nosed intense guy. Humans have emotions.

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 f***ing Orioles gave Bo a concussion.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Rumours? Atkins wanted to trade Giles to Yankees for 3 prospects ( none of them top 100 or well known names)
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Why is maile batting when we have Jansen and McGuire?
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 A Yankee sweep would be really nice. They might not get homefield then
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Feels like all of our players are terrible baserunners. Biggio is telling him to stop and he still takes off
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Zoinks has some good movement on that two seamer.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Zoinks has some good movement on that two seamer. Isnt this his second time around with the Yankees as well?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Damn, Zoinks looks a lot better than advertised.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Isnt this his second time around with the Yankees as well? Yes sir.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Damn, Zoinks looks a lot better than advertised. Seems to have elevated his game based on superior coaching at the mlb level
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Why the hell did Davis hesitate his throw. First instinct should be to toss it 2nd base, Judge was never gonna stretch that into a triple
