There's a much better sequence against Donaldson. Buckled him on a 1-1 curve for a called strike and then came right back with it down in the zone that was fouled off. Getting him to flail at that 1-2 curve that he fouled off set him up to be frozen by a nicely located fastball which was executed perfectly. Nice to see Jansen make the adjustment on the pitch selection there.

Since the start of the 2016 season (not counting today), Grichuk has a 99 wRC+ in 1919 plate appearances.

I mean, a league average hitter with good defence is a decent player, but not someone I'd want batting anywhere near the top of the lineup, especially when his OBP is so bad.

Of course the Jays hitters are young/not established yet, so where he fits in the current lineup is debatable. If everyone is healthy, I'd say 6th is the highest I'd put him (Bo-Biggio-Vlad-Gurriel-Smoak being ahead of him).

I'm still holding out hope that he somehow breaks out next year unexpectedly like Smoak did. I remember reading they were tinkering with his swing, so maybe that might explain some of the down season, but it's not like he's going anywhere, so hope for the best.

I agree. I'm hoping we sign someone who can play multiple positions (including CF) that also has a decent bat, a .270/.330/.470 type. I don't think we can rely on Smoak or Tellez to be that solid #5 in the order, so we need to pick up an affordable bat or two. Teo, Drury, McKinney and Fisher hopefully don't see much playing time next year, especially the last three.

Great start for Tabby and Buck...they can jerk each other off about going against the shift and how dumb openers are ALL NIGHT LONG. Wonderful

How do you like the opener now... LOL

Are you blaming Font for what happened? Sure he could have used some more swings and misses but he gave up one deep flyball on a well located fastball on the outside black, then two of the worst groundball hits you'll see and then a bloop single on a fastball high and inside which literally hurt Donaldson.

You have to have good relievers to use the opener strategy

f*** that noise lol, Font's been great for us. Dude is getting BABIP'd on well-located pitches.

Lol @ this BABIP luck, poor Font.

Amen.

Freeman had no idea where the ball went on his swing but yes let's credit his supernatural ability to beat the shift

I was talking about Albies

And Font is usually solid anyways, not sure why everyone is complaining.

Font was fine once again, his only issue was not getting as many swings and misses as usual if you wanna find something to complain about.
