Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Atkins should tell us who the 4 are and let us pick.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 PTBNL is a list of 4,5,6, or 99 names. The other team give you time to evaluate a pick one of those names 4 pitchers then
43211234 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 It's not a secret. It's usually the team has a list of players to pick from by a certain date. Julian Merryweather's name leaked last year but don't most PTBNL lists stay out of the public's knowledge? I understand not wanting your players to know they were on a PTBNL list but the whole practice is stupid. Just pick the players to trade and have them move organizations that day.
Frag Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 The fact that the Jays turned a player like Sogard into actual value on the market is a win for the organization.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I'm super interested in what this return actually is. Hoping these names come out sooner rather than months later.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Wouldn't it be funny if they get a better return on Sogard than we did.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Wouldn't it be funny if they get a better return on Sogard than we did. yeah that would be hilarious.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 The fact that the Jays turned a player like Sogard into actual value on the market is a win for the organization. We needed a success story after all the poor returns we have received.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Man, if the Rays flip Sogard for better value than what they gave up literally a day or two after trading for him, then that would be embarrassing. Not surprising though. The Rays know talent better than almost every other team.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I can't see the Rays getting much of a better return for Sogard, even if we don't know the players we recieved. That doesn't make sense, but I'll stick with it.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I can't see the Rays getting much of a better return for Sogard, even if we don't know the players we recieved. That doesn't make sense, but I'll stick with it. I just don’t see the point of the Rays trading two prospects for Sogard and then flipping him immediately if they were going to get equal or less value for him than what they gave up. Either they are keeping him or they feel like they can move him for something better. Otherwise why else make the deal from their perspective? Another possibility is they were contacted by teams the moment the trade happened and then realized they could move him for value. Who really knows. We will have to wait and see what the Jays get first.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Our desired prospects in a Sogard trade could be way different than the Rays. So we could get younger, long shot types and they would trade Sogard for a 25 year old RP or something. That's also possible. The Jays and Rays are on two different paths so a player closer to the Majors (or already in the Majors) would have more value to the Rays than lottery tickets in low A.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 So you wouldn’t be annoyed at the Rays flipping Sogard? f*** off. A slow-to-develop 3 team trade would not annoy me, no.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 So you wouldn’t be annoyed at the Rays flipping Sogard? f*** off. Sorry - no I wouldn't be. I understand that teams value players differently and that teams are on different win curves, which effects their valuations.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Eric Sogard's tenure with the Jays was quite enjoyable and a big part of me wishes it could last longer. Maybe we can sign him in the offseason again.

He's a prime example of why they always say there's absolutely nothing wrong with a minor league deal with an invite to camp.....ever once in awhile, you land a Sogard.

The Iceman Verified Member Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 His wife is very hot, also See what being a millionaire can do for you... And Sogard was a very smart signing. He had a great year in Milwaukee when healthy and is aging well. I say smart...might have been lucky. He was awesome with his role on this team, a nice lead off option that we would have otherwise been missing.
