TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 does that make them the Yankeeees? No report on the return yet will update They must be either confident that Stanton can play RF everyday...or they are anticipating his season ending injury
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Salary dump? How much was Sea paying?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 16, 2019 Author Posted June 16, 2019 I am hearing Jaun Then is the return. Nice return Ranked New York Yankees #22 prospect after the 2018 season Track Record: The Mariners liked Then’s quick arm and projectable frame and signed him out of the Dominican Republic for $77,000 in 2016 before flipping him, along with lefty J.P. Sears, to the Yankees for reliever Nick Rumbelow. He made his Yankees debut in 2018, posting a 2.70 ERA in 11 starts in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. Scouting Report: Then boasts a three-pitch mix that starts with a low-90s fastball that touches 95 mph. The pitch features running and riding action out of an overhand slot. He backs up his fastball with a 78-82 mph curveball with hard, downward snap. The pitch is inconsistent but projects plus with repetition and development. He also throws a mid-80s change that shows hard sinking action and could be average in the future. There are some concerns about his somewhat straight fastball, which is exacerbated by his lack of size and little remaining projectability. The Future: Then has a chance to stick in the rotation as his arsenal develops, but the bullpen is also a possibility. He should pitch at one of the Yankees’ two short-season affiliates in 2019.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 That’s all the Mariner’s are getting for eating half of Edwin’s salary?
baubau Verified Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 That’s all the Mariner’s are getting for eating half of Edwin’s salary? Well this sets the market for Smoak at least. Who else needs a 1B/DH? Astros?
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 This lineup is crazy. Hicks is probably their worst hitter this season and he projects for a 110 wRC+ RoS
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 I'm rooting for the Yankees. It's good for baseball when they are good, and now that the Jays will suck for a while, I'd rather baseball benefit.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Cant wait for 2026 when Vlad makes his Yankees debut.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Juan Then was originally a Mariners prospect. I guess they wanted him back from the Yankees

Key22 Verified Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 I'm a bit surprised that this is all they got back for the AL Home Run leader in a not so homer friendly park in Seattle. Not sure why Seattle didin't wait a month to see what else came up given that a lot can happen in a month - injuries etc. Sure his defense may be down at first but it's not like a hugely ciritical defensive position - I mean he can still put his foot on first and catch a ball. Does Cashman have pictures of Dipoto screwing a goat or something? Looks like a totally crappy return when Seattle is also eating a large chunk of the contract on top.

I can't believe they had to pay half his salary. That's just ridiculous. EE is killing it and earning every dollar he's being paid this year.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 One of the top bats in the AL for a pittance. Heck of a trade for Cashman. It stull hurts every time I see Edwin in another uniform. He should have stayed with the Jays, lots of mistakes from both sides.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads. Saw this deal last night and scratching my head. Given the last 3 years decline I don't see Edwin continuing to mash like this for all of 19, but jesus. He is still a dangerous bat. Sometimes I have stop and ponder that "E-5" has now hit 400 HRs roid free. Its an amazing story. Crazy. Is one of my all time fav Jays. You never know who’s “Roid free”. Just who got caught or who gets suspected because the media doesn’t like them.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Exactly. I don't think the game is nearly as clean as some expect it to be. Players are just savvy about hiding it now.
vic city Verified Member Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Can someone that understands baseball better than me please explain how the Yankees continuosly have enough prospects to trade for the best rentals in baseball year in, year out, while still developing all-star home grown talent year after year? Seriously....we traded for RA Dickey, Tulo and David Price and it GUTTED our farm system for years to come. What gives?

Their director of scouting Damon Oppenheimer is the best in the game and has been for over a decade. Sanchez, Judge, Severino, Bettances...the list goes on. All his guys. Whatever "it" is when it comes to scouting, he has it.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 They can do whatever they want I guess. But I would love to see a player speak up and say, 'I'm not playing there cause I like my beard."

That would be rather interesting to see play out.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Another frivolous lawsuit? Pass. I'm not sure it would be frivolous (provided it was related to changing the policy, and didn't involve monetary compensation).
