Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 lmao @ Buck on Luciano "overall he's held his own" He's been possibly the worst pitcher in baseball. No he hasn't, but he is up there (especially in the advanced stats). I think the title of worst probably goes to Ervin Santana, with Estrada not too far behind.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 OK, it's time for a phantom IL stint for Luciano. I get what they're trying to do and that he might one day be good, but right now he's a f***ing embarrassment.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Poor Luciano Having to go back to A ball next year,
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 we're losing casuals every game. In a game where you don't have any competition, I'm sure there are a few rogers executives thinking..where the f*** is Vlad. They are casuals. They will be back when it's cool to be there. Trust the Process

He shouldn't be brought into close games anyway, and someone has to chew up the blowouts.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 lmao @ Buck on Luciano "overall he's held his own" He's been possibly the worst pitcher in baseball. I'd like to remind you that Trevor Rosenthal has 3 strikeouts, 9 walks, 3 HBPs and 5 WPs in 3 innings of work. He surprisingly didn't give up a homerun before getting injured, but as it stands his ERA/FIP/xFIP line is 36.00/13.10/15.59.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 For the role he's in, who cares? He shouldn't be brought into close games anyway, and someone has to chew up the blowouts. It's mickey mouse. Running out a 19-year old who wouldn't even rank as a top 300 prospect in baseball all season to get absolutely pummeled for an entire season on the off chance that he might be good in 2022 is something that I don't think you'd see Boston or New York do. I feel like MLB teams have a responsibility to attempt to fill their rosters with MLB-caliber players. If Luciano doesn't pan out Atkins deserves to be mocked endlessly for this.

The fact that they picked and are sticking with Luciano shows where the mindset is for this year and when fans complain about lineups or bunts or umps...the answer back should just be "Elvis is still in the building" This is a throwaway season.

I have no problem taking pot shots at shatkins, but the kid has a good arm. His stats in the minors at an age appropriate level were quite good. I don't know why you have a problem with this. We're actively trying to lose. He's contributing quite well in that endeavor. We throw him back in the minors next year. If he doesn't pan out, what did we lose? Prospects don't always pan out so I don't know why you would mock Shatkins for this. This is one of the moves I can get behind.

This isn't the only throw away. Shatkins have firmly committed to throwing away at least one more, maybe 2.

There's certainly some legitimate things to complain about with the organization, but imo Luciano isn't one of them.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Urena is having a grand old time out there today Yeah, the first two were hard to blame entirely on him. That last one was 100% his fault.

That is the point I've been trying to make in a round about way. All the complaining about bunting is stupid. It doesn't matter other than if it indicates larger problems in the organization.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 It's 10-2 now bring in vladdy lol Galvis just got on Pinch hit Vladdy

Yeah but the Luciano one is the obvious one. They picked a guy that is not ready in the Rule 5 and essentially just shortened the bench on a team that is already housing players that pretty much don't deserve more PT. All other players I somewhat understand why they are here to a point. You need s*** to shine eventually to make that next step. Whether it's barrels or exit velocity or spin rates every other person has a reason for being here.

Throwaway season (in terms of letting the kids and temporary placeholders play and take their lumps) should not mean you play the game the wrong way.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 There's certainly some legitimate things to complain about with the organization, but imo Luciano isn't one of them. He's becoming one of my biggest complaints. I do think he's going to eventually spend a couple months on the IL while working with the major league coaches, at which point it's a non-issue. I just don't support running him out there on the 25-man all season when he's getting destroyed every time out.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 My issue with Elvis has always been I'm not sure that a season of being out of his depth is good for his development. He's at least a couple of years away from a "proper" call up, which might never even happen. On the other hand wins this year are irrelevant and if he had a more normal season developing in the Royals farm, it might be good for him personally but wouldn't be for us. My preference has always been to try to work out a trade - at least the Royals get something and we can send him to the minors where he belongs.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Safe to say we're gonna suck for the next 2 to 3 years at least. I dont see a quick rebuild happening

I wonder if maybe the Royals are refusing to discuss compensation out of principle. If the Jays FO sees enough upside to run him out all year on the 25 man just to keep him, it would be hard to justify not offering something of value to KC to facilitate developing him in a better environment. And if you're KC, you presumably wouldn't be asking for that much, as the Jays have shown that they're willing to keep him up to avoid losing him, and the alternative is getting nothing. Feels like the Royals are basically just flipping Shatkins the bird.
