glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Nice move. Shatkins has a great philosophy when it comes to relievers. Never spend big on them. Buy low on multiple high K guys coming off down years and if a few of them stick then you get assets for nothing. Wonder who comes off the 40 man for this.

Should be Urena, Davis, or Pompey.

Pompey has lost a lot of luster but 2019 is a season in which the team doesn’t intend on competing. Seems like a perfect opportunity to use him as a 4th outfielder and see if he turns into anything useful. But yeah he seems like the guy they will DFA since he has no options left. Phelps returning to previous form would be great. Relievers are valuable at the deadline.

He's the guy I'd cut. The other two are also s***, but he's 26, out of options, seems to have a questionable attitude, is always hurt, and hasn't really even hit in AAA.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I regret trading David Phelps in the LOD now.

Yeah attitude and lack of options make him destined to be removed eventually. Davis and Smith have options remaining so they are probably safe, and I don’t think they remove Urena.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 It will be disappointing to see Pompey go (but seems like the most likely cut). Dude had so much potential.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 A trade of one of the vets would solve the problem. I don't think this is the type of "problem" that you want to let force your hand on a trade.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 You don't think there have been some trade discussions on the vets? Could be a couple already worked out. The vets have to go, and it is better than losing prospects.

The vets have to go, and it is better than losing prospects. Does your definition of "prospect" include Dalton Pompey, Dwight Smith Jr., and Jonathan Davis though? They all aren't very good, and players like Pompey will be released frequently between now and spring.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 My thoughts regarding Pompey are that if they were going to let him go, it would have been prior to the rule 5 draft. The scouts must still see some upside there, but we will all see what happens shortly.

IMO it’d be better for his career to go to another team though.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Trade Pillar, and we might be happy to have Pompey.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Now if only Pompey let the public know that he's using a life coach to alter his s***** attitude... This will be a 2019 I can get behind!
