This seems to be a bigger factor than thinking Tulo has zero chance of any kind of bounce back. Half the teams in the league apparently were willing to give him a chance:

Interested might mean a spring training invite...I wouldn't read too much into this.

This team has been run terribly, Tulo is one of many horrible mistakes they made. At the time they acquired him it was pretty apparent his career was on the down slope and that he was mainly just a product of playing at Coors Field to begin with. Then you have the brilliance of letting Edwin leave because they were too cheap to give him a few more mil. a year, this from a team with one of the highest attendances who could surely have afforded it. Oh, but that same year they came up with 18 mil. for one more season of a clearly washed up Bautista. Then there's the biggest crime of all, who trades away a young fireballer who throws 100 mph for an old knuckleballer? Syndergaard could have been the ace of this franchise for 10 years, instead they got 2 years of Dickey getting shelled including in a few huge AL Championship games. This team was irrelevant for over 20 years and just as they were becoming relevant again management destroyed any chance they had of staying that way.

What? In retrospect, not signing Edwin was a very good move.

Blue Jays offered more than what EE signed for, not to mention that worked out for Toronto. The other two examples were moves made by a different front office. Easy man.

How do you figure that worked out for Toronto? 2017 38 HR 107 RBI ; 2018 32 HR 107 RBI, how many players on the Jays put up those numbers? And they did NOT offer more, they offered the same amount 20 mil. per season and he decided for the same money he might as well go to a better team.

Jays offered a mutual option for the 5th year. Toronto's going into rebuild now, one Edwin was not turning around our overall record the last 2 seasons.

So because Edwin wasn't going to be the difference between the team sucking and winning the World Series it makes more sense to not keep very good players on your team? Who has the new regime signed in free agency that's worth anything to replace him? They've signed nothing but scrubs to fill a spot on the roster. They have plenty of money and won't spend it to make this team any good.

LOL, another guy who thinks an avg. of 35 HRs and 107 RBIs per season are useless. I take it this board is filled with homers who just go along with every bad move and bad player without criticizing anything or anyone and are perfectly content being a non contending team.

Shatkins not doubling down on AA’s core basically saved us. Can’t believe people still don’t realize it.

Serious question, did you post on the Jays' facebook page with any regularity?

TBF even if we had spent hundreds of millions in free agency, the injuries to Sanchez, Stroman, Travis and Donaldson, and Osuna’s domestic violence case would still have ruined our last two seasons.

That would mean we would still have missed the playoffs 2 years straight, but would have much lower payroll flexibility. But now if Vlad, Bo and some other prospects have success over the next year or two, we have tonnes of payroll room to add complementary pieces in free agency.

It's not useless, but it's not nearly as useful as you're making it out to be. A 115 wRC+ and 1.0 WAR last year from a defensively useless player isn't doing much for this team. Sure, better (and pricier) than Morales, but Luke Maile out WAR'd Encarnacion last year, so let's not pretend that he's still a great player...

LOL....EE is going to average that in his down years? What are next week's lotto numbers? Not to mention Smoak basically produced similar results for far less money.

I don't post much, but even so I am considering a name change to mitigate the chance i am confused with this fellow.

Uh no that's what he averaged the past 2 years after the Blue Jays let him walk, Smoak was already on the team so what does that matter? You'd rather have 1 guy in the lineup with those numbers than 2?

LMAO....past numbers <> current, and the Jays are not a winning team anyway so what's the point of keeping an Ageing, declining EE? Also you are forgetting the Jays offered him more then he signed for, blame EE for being greedy.
