L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Anyone else up at 5:30 to watch a Mike Fiers vs. Marco Gonzales start? Need a stream... Spanky where you at??
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 100 million isn't enough for the boat I'd buy That’s understandable Just remember while yachts are nice, don’t get stuck in a pontoon off of Kijiji when you could’ve had a brand new Malibu
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Welp... Domingo hits a slam. I’m enjoying this.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Welp... Domingo hits a slam. My LOD team just enjoyed that one!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Forgot to call-up Tim Beckham, damn.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Oppo Taco Chapman, he's strong man.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Interesting all these pre-FA extensions happening. Would love to get Vlad on something like 8 years/$80-90M. Have him up asap. I'm curious to see the next time the Jays sign a contract with any sort of risk involved.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I think this was my first ever experience accruing Fernando Rodney stats in fantasy baseball. I didn't really enjoy it.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 FanGraphs is now counting pitch framing in their WAR calculation. Russell Martin is now 10th all time in catcher fWAR right behind Brian McCann. In 2018 our fWAR leader at 2.2 fWAR was Luke Maile. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/war-update-catcher-framing/ I thought I'd post the link on this. They've also incorporated framing into the pitching WAR, which I don't believe was mentioned here yet. Pretty cool stuff.

Ray Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 time to follow this up for Vlad and/or Bichette
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 and/or Bichette Agreed. It's smart practice and would get them up here much quicker.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Yup. Sign Vlad this year and Bo next year.
Ray Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 If Eloy got $43M guaranteed, how does that set the market for Vlad? Could we get it done around $60M?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 But I still think the final deal is going look different than just a straight 8 year $100M. Listen to me more often.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 What if Vlad is really bad defensively and his total war is less than what people think it will be? There's a good chance Jiminez might be a more productive overall player if you balance hitting and d. I'm not saying don't lock him up, but maybe the Jays want to see where he fits in position wise defensively.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Eloy isn't good defensively either... Really? Ok I always heard he was an all around fielder, guess there goes that.
Superdood Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 My guess is the Jays won't be smart enough to do this kind of deal, they'll manipulate service time and then Vlad will come up and be dominant and they'll need to pay him at least double or triple what Eloy just got in a few years. It's the most Bluejays thing to do. Wait too long and get taken to the wood shed.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Vlad's late 20's might be a risk due to his size and position. He should still be an elite hitter, but a fat 1B doesn't have the same type of value. I think the Jays would want his first 7 or 8 years, but can't see Shapiro risking anything beyond that. I could see Shapiro signing Bichette, Jansen, Alford (if he turns into something), etc, but Vlad will probably Harper his way through arb to get that payday.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Arbitration eligible players hating these contract extensions??
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Arbitration eligible players hating these contract extensions?? yes and no. Arbitration does comparables but takes into account year over year contracts in comparison to multi year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 yes and no. Arbitration does comparables but takes into account year over year contracts in comparison to multi year. True. Teams can't use these as comps nor one year arbitration avoiding deals can they... It still feels like teams are getting smarter at trying to find ways to drag down average salaries league wide. (free agent superstar players notwithstanding)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Mookie Betts says he woukd never sign an extension before reaching free agency Good good
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Mookie Betts says he woukd never sign an extension before reaching free agency Good good Mookie's going to get $30+ mil next year and then $300 mil as a free agent. He can afford to. Obvious risk is serious injury, but that's what betting on yourself means.
