SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I am not sure about the racism thing. But I am sure I really want to date Polish women now! Or am I the only person seeing huge ad banners for Polish women? Such a weird ad.

Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Alford starts tonight, and he'll have about a week or so to prove himself

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 lol, a week is enough time? Alford fanboys are like pond koi, desperately gasping at the surface for crumbs

AintNoThang Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 A non Alford related post for Boxcrap. Did you know that Biggio has provided 2.2 WAR in 91 games despite providing negative defensive value? If moved to another position, he can be even more valuable. Gurriel had provided 2 WAR in 82 games despite the early year struggles. Bichette has provided 1.7 WAR in 46 games as a 21 year old shortstop. Jansen had provided 1.4 WAR despite providing very little on the offensive side. McGuire has provided 1.3 WAR in 23 games. And all are well below the future Miggy Cabrera/MVP type we have sitting at 3rd on the depth chart. Add in the Pearson/Kay/Moanoahs/SWR on the pitching side, toss in a few high level talents through free agency, and let Alford blossom as an all star center fielder... And the future is bright!!!
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 haha I f***ing knew we would claim Breyvic Valera. Decent claim IMO but might just be here to take up space while Bo is out. Ryan Dull DFA = shortest Jays career ever? I wonder if he even got a jersey with his name printed?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 Same questions remain about Anthony Alford’s MLB potential "Alford’s hot streaks have been so blistering, and his raw tools are so real, that the question remains: with health and consistent playing time, could he be that average MLB outfielder? Could he be even better? Despite spending time in the majors every season since 2017, Alford’s appeared in only 28 games. He’s yet to accumulate 50 big-league plate appearances. Wherever his true talent level may be, he hasn’t been given much runway to reach it."

Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 For those who didnt hear it, commentator on Sportsnet said Vladdie is open to hitting the gym and possibly going on a restricted diet in off-season. Thats good news if he wants to continue playing 3B
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 It's a positive thing to say and acknowledge, but I will believe nothing until I see what he looks like next spring.

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Shapiro was on with Tim & Sid, and basically gave the hint that the organisation has no desire to ramp up at this point. Looks like another below 70 win year. Lots of starts for Trent Thorton, TJ Zeuch, Anthony Kay, Probably Nate Pearson later in the year. Most likely we will see a lot of Shoemaker, Pannone, Clay Bucholz etc. same garbage Most likely they will burn money on Free Agents that they think can have value at the deadline but will have no value because they are rentals. Offseason: We should sign player X, because player X can be traded at the deadline if they have a good season Trade Deadline: Well player X was a rental so we couldn't get much. Derp Derp, look at this serviceable AAAA player we got

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 I don't see why the Jays cant be 2019 Oakland Athletics 'lite' Big years from Vlad, Bichette, Biggio, Gurriel, (Gurriel and Bichette were on pace to have big years if they had played the entire time) throw in Jansen/McGuire with a mix of thrifty signings and maybe one or two bigger free agent signings (1B and PITCHING). I don't see why they cant win 85ish games, a lot has to go right, but the core has a lot of talent and definitely could see some big years from the kids.

It will come down to SP and revamping the bullpen

Looks like another below 70 win year. Lots of starts for Trent Thorton, TJ Zeuch, Anthony Kay, Probably Nate Pearson later in the year. Saw the interview and got the same impression. Team is not ready to spend yet or make significant adds. 2020 will be what 2019 was, except we will be using the season to incorporate pitching prospects instead of position players. Maybe the Jays sign one SP short term who can eat up innings (Porcello? He has the Cherington connection and had a poor season so may not be able to get more than a one year deal but otherwise is a decent mid rotation SP). Otherwise the 40 man and future 40 man will have Pearson (in May or whenever they call him up), Shoemaker, Kay, Zeuch, Thornton, Waguespack, Borucki, SRF, Perez, Merryweather, Murphy, Diaz, Hatch......maybe I'm missing someone. That's a s*** ton of arms for MLB and AAA, and I'm sure Atkins wants to see if one or two or three of them can turn into long term pieces. Some will suck, some will be in the pen, and hopefully a couple stick. That's probably the plan. Of course there is the possibility for trades as well.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 a lot of wishful thinking going on, reminds me of every year from 1995 to 2012
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Well, running a Pirates level payroll next year is unacceptable, so they have to spend the money somewhere. They don't have to do anything if they don't want to. They should look for opportunities, but if they don't want to pull the ripcord on that yet, who's gonna make them.
