An advanced statistics information session on the same podcast where Alan tells Nick "stop being such a Poindexter"

Keep Poindextering Nick

Right here:

This was from 2080 baseball. Which is probably where mlb got their grades from. And it is indeed a future grade

A strong athlete with a compact delivery, I project the fastball to a future 55-grade pitch with development, with enough velocity (60-grade) and movement to consistently play above-average.

No one cares about your opinion on Luciano

So in weighted on base, it says a single is more valuable then a walk- all those statistics are averaged out over multiple games.

In a tight game, is a 1 pitch AB where the ball goes off a defensive swing and squibs down the 3rd base line for an infield single, equal to a 13 pitch worked walk?

In both situations you have a runner on 1st. One AB took 1 pitch, the other 13 pitches to 1 batter. Increasing pitch count, showing his repoitore, tiring the pitcher out mentally and physically, letting the on deck guy get a good look at his stuff.

I was cracking up when someone said work Luciano ragged until he is a broke man and then give him back to the Royals and say here you go, thanks. LMFAO.. Still cracking up about that and have a huge smile on my face writing this...

The rant about Luciano being eligible was misguided. It was a loophole to a rule that has since been patched. I read that Luciano is the last player that would have been eligible to be taken before this patch was in place.

Also, I don't think it's unfair to him at all. He pretty much wins the lottery here if he spends any amount of time in the major leagues. And the minimum pension after 43 days of service time. Pretty certain every player in rookie ball who signs for $85,000 would take that in a heartbeat and not look back.

+1 for MLB Pipeline grades being BS. It's a load of garbage.

I think the Anibal hate is unwarranted. He obviously was lucky last year to an extent last year but he projects to be a league average starter with good ratios, which is an okay piece.

Kendall Graveman signed with the Cubs.

I must be missing something because the only Luciano I'm aware of is the future stud prospect with the Giants.

Edit - ah it's our rule 5 guy, only his first name stuck with me.

Agree, I think the minimum is now over $650k USD.

I was wondering when this was recorded?

As you mentioned, Graveman went to the Cubs and Romano was traded to Texas.

Josh Winckowski is really good. Curious to see where he goes in the upcoming LoD draft. Those high school late round signs are so volatile. Travis Hosterman was taken 4 rounds earlier in the same draft, signed for 400k (the 4th highest bonus given out in the Jays '16 draft class behind the big 3 of Bichette, Woodman and Zoinks), pitched ~15 innings, and hasn't pitched again. Granted, he blew his arm out.

disappointed no one made a trackman readouts reference when 190 wRC+ was mentioned near the end of the podcast

I swear we made this point during the recording. Maybe it got cut for some reason.

We are working on speeding up the editing. Stuff does get outdated fast.

So guys my 2 cents for what it is worth... 2 cents American, so it might be worth more than Jim's 2 cents ;)

The opening wasn't as solid as past episodes, I think you guys basically admit that.. However, I think it is important. I was totally lost as to what the heck you were talking about..

Also, just like any book, news cast, radio show, you want to catch the listeners interest (hook) right off the bat, even if it is just a tease and then you put filler in until you get to the hook.

If I had never heard a BJScouts pod cast, prior, I am not sure I would have stuck around. i.e new fans, expanding the base.

You guys had some really good openings previously. Sounded very professional, had a hook and kept my interest.

You also mentioned this.. Just want to put some emphasis on it from my point of view. I enjoyed/enjoy listening to YOU guys, talk about baseball. There are tons of shows talking about baseball. I think you need to continuously build up your personalities, antidotes about personal life, keep making people want to listen to YOU GUYS talk baseball. This one felt a little bit more like generic guys talking baseball.

Except for Boxy's dad, that was cool I agree with his dad, should curtail the cussing, not because I am prude, just so I can play it on the Beats or Bose with my young son playing near by.

I enjoy it guys, don't get me wrong. You have set a high (good) bar, now you have to keep it.

Lastly, throw Luciano in the deep end. I agree you don't need to be so age fixated and that he has to go through the process blah, blah.. There are a lot of 18 yr old studs out there. I think RJ Barrett could be in the NBA right now and do well. Osuna is also a good example. He was playing professional ball in Mexico at 16, that is a very high level.

Don't coddle him..

Lucky King, bunch of elitists.. They will never offer the Harold Reynolds of BJMB an invitation.. :( ;)

Palacios intrigues me as a post-draft hype sleeper. I don't think he has been discussed by any after his poor 2017 season. I think he has enough tools to be, at least, a 40 man roster outfielder and if he hits in AA, he could be a September callup next year. I believe he has to be added to the 40 man roster next offseason so that only helps his chances.

Could be a Pompey replacement!

Riley Adams was my sleeper pick in that Legit Prospects or Busts thread on here somewhere.. Go Riley!

I'm glad to see that this episode has sparked a nice little discussion, at least. It's far from our best work, but we feel that it's mostly because there weren't a lot of interesting topics to work with. We also missed Andrew's usual topnotch contributions to the show. That being said, we stand by our work and I'm still proud of this one, as I am of our past releases.

For what it's worth, we had an internal debate about whether we would just scrap the entirety, or shelve the majority of, this episode. We would've likely kept the segment about wOBA for a future episode, but we obviously decided to release this one in its entirety.

I liked the part about wOBA.. As I mentioned, in a previous post, I think it has some flaws, but it was interesting and sparks discussion.

I learned an interesting tid bit of information as i listened to the podcast with my brother.

When one of you guys mentioned Carson Kelly my little brother was like "Oh, yeah, i played against him a bunch when he played on Markham" Apparently Carson Kelly father worked for Nike and got a better job up in Canada so friggen Carson Kelly was playing rep peewee ball for Markham, Ontario. My brother was in the age group of his younger brother Parker Kelly (who went onto play for Oregon) and got drafted. My brother said Markham would just pitch Parker Kelly and North York would pitch Gareth Morgan in the finals (Of Seattle Mariners) and none of the kids in that league could put the ball on the bat and it would be 0-0 until they pulled them.
