P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 In the deep, dark reaches of the internet, there exists a Radio Scouts website that has not yet been released for public consumption. What we'd like to do is to bring that baby to the people, but it would be more worthwhile if this website could produce regular content, like articles, in addition to the podcast. John Havok and I are possibilities to contribute written words to the site. As it is, I've been planning to write an in-depth accompanying article (with reports and grades) for our Jays top prospects podcast at some point during the offseason. Would anyone else be interested in writing about the Jays and/or MLB? The gig would not pay, but it might be a great opportunity to get your name and writing talents out there to the world. I know that we've all gotten older, and probably busier, since Breaking Blue was first launched (which, by the way, was a rousing success - multiple writers got hired by the Blue Jays as a result), but we have some obviously gifted writers here and I'm hopeful that at least a couple of you can find the time to join us. Let me know below if you're interested, please. Hoping to get anywhere from 2-6 people.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2018 Author Posted October 21, 2018 I'm going to write a screenplay Interesting. Maybe you want to write a real-life, based-on-a-true-story screenplay about the 2019 Toronto Blue Jays as it happens? I'll even give you a place to write it.

I do have a bit of a background in journalism but it's just not a good time to even be thinking about adding any extra commitments.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2018 Author Posted October 23, 2018 (edited) I would love to get some feedback (constructive criticisms are encouraged) on this website I'm building for the podcast/blog. There is both a desktop and mobile version of the site, so feel free to check out either. https://radioscoutspodcast.wixsite.com/radioscouts Please just try to focus on the design and functionality and not necessarily the content or the random pictures. I'll give free 'thanks' to those that provide feedback. Edited October 25, 2018 by P2F

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 I would love to get some feedback (constructive criticisms are encouraged) on this website I'm building for the podcast/blog. There is both a desktop and mobile version of the site, so feel free to check out either. https://radioscoutspodcast.wixsite.com/radioscouts Please just try to focus on the design and functionality and not necessarily the content or the random pictures. I'll give free 'thanks' to those that provide feedback. 1) Currently the first thing I see when I hit the home page is a full screen link to "articles". In general I think scrolling should be kept to a minimum on the home page. Within the first screen that is presented to me I should definitely see a link to the latest podcast and maybe a couple of recent articles. 2) I think the header bar is way too big, especially when combined with the "designed by wix.com" bar. One quarter of my screen is being taken up by the two bars when I initially get to the page. 3) On the podcast page and the Podcast section of the homepage, each podcast has the same image. It doesn't make sense to dedicate so much screen space to the same exact image over and over again, especially on the Podcast page where it takes up more than half the screen at a time. If you could come up with any kind of image at all that has anything remotely to do with a topic of the podcast that would be so much nicer. Now we are getting into content, so I won't say anything about what the pictures should be. But as far as the design, that's a lot of screen space to use for the same repeating image at this time 4) This is more of a content suggestion too I guess, but a "Meet the Radio Scouts" page seems like a nice touch. People are gonna wanna know who you guys are, what you look like. Some basic info like a picture and a little blurb about who you are. Maybe say something about how you all met here and what your usernames are. 5) You should probably make a bigger deal about people following you on Twitter and Youtube. I see the little icons, but maybe make a little message about how you are nothing without fan support or some s*** and ask them to follow your social media pages
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 You say Patreon, Patroon, and Patron all on the same page (I can buy Patreon and Patron...but Patroon just sounds insulting). I'm not sponsoring the TRSPC if there are going to be errors.

I see the little icons, but maybe make a little message about how you are nothing without fan support or some s*** and ask them to follow your social media pages I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Just to provide a bit of backstory, although I had a rough website made previously for the podcast, it needed to be overhauled almost entirely for the addition of the blog. I also went from a dark theme to a light theme, which I think is a lot easier on the eyes. Also, it's worth mentioning that we currently own the www.radioscouts.com domain and that is where this website will exist in the future. Touching on all of your points: 1. Good call! It was very cumbersome to navigate the homepage previously. That section was intended as just a placeholder, though I've ultimately since decided to go in a different direction altogether for the homepage. 2. The Wix header will be gone before the website goes live. That's only there because I haven't yet upgraded the site, which I'll do once it's ready to go and we can start publishing written content to go along with the podcasts. I've adjusted the header on the mobile version of the website, as I agree that it was way too big. As for the desktop version, I think it'll be perfect once the Wix banner is gone from the top, but I'll remain open to suggestions, of course. 3. Ideally, the images for each podcast will differ. Again, that is/was a temporary measure until we can get some actual images. Having said that, I've changed this section to a slideshow, which looks much better. 4. This technically already existed as an 'About'-like section, but I had temporarily hidden it while I changed things over to add the blog. Now that we've got some writers on board, I've created a basic template of what that section could look like. 5. Duly noted! I may add something to the homepage about following us, but for now, I've added a blurb in the Contact Us section. I've taken into consideration all of your points and am now happy to present the most recent build of the website: https://radioscoutspodcast.wixsite.com/radioscouts It's not yet a finished product, but it's definitely on its way. P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2018 Author Posted October 26, 2018 Suggestions for a creative but short tagline for the Radio Scouts website? Something along the lines of 'A Blue Jays Blog' but less boring. Preferably an idea that would allude to the fact that it's not just articles, but a podcast as well.
