This would be true 2+ years ago , he's as a wildcard at this point and shouldn't fetch any of their top prospects.

Mets wanted a team to take his whole contract instead. For a team in a large market they are extremely cheap. It's pretty sad when the smallest payroll team in the league was willing to take it.

The Red Sox just acquired Nathan Eovaldi for Jalen Beeks. Solid pickup for them, specially if he transitions to a bullpen role in the playoffs.

Beeks is a 24 year old starter who has elite numbers in AAA this season, very solid return for a half season rental of a player as injury prone as Eovaldi.

That's pretty good for Tampa. A reclamation project turns into six years of Beeks.

Even if Beeks tops out as a fringe #5 or depth arm, the Rays have done well with their original investment.

beeks steps right into Eovaldi's role, only for a few years instead of this season. His K's, velocity and GB rates all heading in the right direction after the development of the cutter.

I just wonder if these great small moves can ever convert into a true direction though. The 2-3 win guys (with control) they amassed for very little is still impressive but it equates .500 team (which is impressive) not a playoff team.
