TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Poor Santiago got pulled from his game ending his 15 game hitting streak
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 The Pearce signing didn’t work out how we hoped, but it’s nice to get a prospect for him.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Any info on this kid would be greatly appreciated
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 “Why did the Blue Jays acquire another infield prospect? That is the last thing they need. They already have Gurriel, Guerrero, Bichette & Biggio. They have drafted shortstops in the 1st round the last two years. The Jays need pitching prospects in the minors, not more infielders.” lmao at MLBTR comments
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Any info on this kid would be greatly appreciated Undersized, athletic middle infielder. Right-handed hitter with a contact-oriented swing. Starts in a slight crouch with an open stance. Loud hands pre-pitch. Two-hand finish. Short swing, direct to the ball. Fringe power potential. Improving pitch recogniton and selection. Average speed. Fluid in the field with above-average range to both sides. Does a good job closing on the ball and plays angles well. Smooth actions, soft hands. Potential above-average defender. Average arm strength. Professional debut was delayed due to a left-hand injury.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Average defender, average power, doesn't walk, doesn't hit for much power. This is a salary dump for a potential backup infielder.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 This kid seems like an actual prospect. I didn’t expect to get that from Steve Pearce.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I hate that we strengthened the Red Sox

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I hate that we strengthened the Red Sox It's Pearce. If Boston offered the best piece then I have no trouble with this.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 He's a little old for his level but he was drafted out of college and then had a hand injury which delayed his debut. Seems like he's an actual prospect though. I bet the Jay's threw in a bunch of cash to get him which is great to see instead of straight salary dumps.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 It's Pearce. If Boston offered the best piece then I have no trouble with this. If this is the best prospect we could get I'm ultimately fine with it.

I can think of better things to spend on than infield Harold Ramirez, but Pearce may have had negative value with all of the injuries.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Why do I bother reading the twitter comments..
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I like this. He's a lottery ticket, but it sounds like he has the tools to have a legit shot at being useful. Infield version of Tony Kemp maybe? Pearce really serves no purpose on the team now.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 start of firesale? Not necessarily. They needed to make a move. Our Outfield is full and we had to many players for 1B/DH.I thought they would hold off now that Donaldson isn't returning soon but not surprised to hear about a trade.

From what I've read it sounds like he's an above average defender. Good contact skills and doesn't strike out much. He's posted an .840 OPS in 65 games in high A ball so far, showing more power this year.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 We don’t exactly have world beaters in the lineup at Dunedin, he’ll bat in the top of the order at high A. For Steve Pearce, and the beginnings of the the fire sale, I’ll take it. Looks like he found some power this season, especially against lefties. Will be competing with Warmoth and Smith for time at SS.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I can think of better things to spend on than infield Harold Ramirez, but Pearce may have had negative value with all of the injuries. Not sure I like that comparison. This guy seems like he plays a good SS and has better baserunning. But yeah getting anything for Pearce is probably good.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 So who comes up... Gurriel I presume
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I wanna know how much cash we are kicking in on this? But either way I'll take a utility infielder for Pearce.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Pearce was a good signing but couldn't stay healthy and sucked as an outfielder. At least we got something back, even if it looks like a utility infielder.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 hope Pillar is next and Alford gets the call for some MLB reps, he's been heating up at the plate

But yeah getting anything for Pearce is probably good. I was going more for age and the bat, but playing a passable shortstop will certainly make him more useful. I just can't get myself too excited about him.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
