In his draft analysis Jim Callis had this to say about Groshams

12. Toronto Blue Jays: SS Jordan Groshans, Magnolia (Texas) HS

Groshans has some of the best raw power in this Draft, and what I really like about it is he knows he doesn't have to sell out for home runs. He makes a lot of hard contact, and there's room to add a lot of strength to his 6-foot-4 frame, so he's gonna do a lot of damage. Groshans may get the opportunity to play shortstop as he breaks into pro ball, but he projects as a third baseman in the long run.

So the Jays got a potential SS version of Nolan Arenado? f*** YAH!

Honestly excited for this pick. Under-slot strategy or not, Groshans will be a fun player to follow!

Yeah I like the position player emphasis. Pitchers are risky and I’d much rather buy them in free agency than hope to develop them. Position players is where it’s at!

Okay, so I stopped off to pick up some wings on my way home and got home and opened the draft link literally as Manfred was at the podium announcing the Groshans pick. Now that I'm all caught up on this thread and the rest of the board, I thought I'd chime in with my two cents on the pick. With Liberatore, Singer, Gorman, etc. still on the board, it appeared to be a head-scratcher of a selection. But Groshans has seriously sick f***ing bat speed and will play 3B at a minimum, with a chance to stick at SS. He's athletic for a big dude, and posseses a sexy swing with great power to boot. This pick has a chance to end up the steal of the draft, imo.

I want to be clear here. I didn't like/thank your post because of your thoughts on Groshans. I liked it because you were a champ and got wings. Better have been jerk flavor!

To the read of the board, who are you hoping for in the 2nd? I am hoping Naylor somehow makes it that far down!

I knew Mike Vasil was already going to college, but it would appear that Kumar Rocker will be as well at this point.

Buffalo with Blue Cheese! So good. I'm hoping someone slides - maybe one of Nick Schnell, Alek Thomas, Jackson Kowar, Cole Wilcox, Mason Denaburg, Ethan Hankins, Shane McClanahan, Naylor, Xavier Edwards, Steele Walker, Parker Meadows, or Jeremy Eierman.

I refuse to be upset that Toronto decided to pass on a highly ranked arm. TINSTAAPP.

(also we know nothing and neither do the "experts")

Nah. We have Vladdy 3B/1B (Miggy), Bichette SS (Seager), Kevin Smith 2B (Pedroia), Jansen C (Posey) and now Groshans 3B (Kris Bryant)

f***.. I'd have a joygasm overload..

My brother has played against Noah Naylor and has said he's the only player he's ever seen where he told the coach what position he was going to play that day.

Incredible day for the Rays. Must be a full on dance party in the Rays draft room.

Yeah, they killed it, they have lots of pool money though.

I’m talking about how historically piss poor the Raptors have drafted... not this past season.

You mean like Wright, OG, Poeltl and Siakam?????

I’m not talking about recent memory Raptors that have had picks in the 20’s. I’m talking about the Araujo and Bargnani days. Raptors have drafted a lot of dog s*** in the first round.
