It's nice having competent players across the lineup and even on the bench. The Rangers lineup reminds me of last year. Their 6 through 9 aren't even big league caliber hitters. We should dominate them again tonight unless they get lucky with BABIP or something.

I'd actually prefer Solarte third and Smoak 4th, but I think JD at #2 is perfect seeing as you want to maximize his PA's and we have competent enough leadoff hitters in Pearce and Granderson to be on base for him enough of the time.

 

The thing with the #3 hitter is I believe in the first inning they hit a lot with 2 outs and no runners on so you're not maximizing the impact that they can make early on.
