Nice win by the Jays! It's been great to see the late inning heroics and everyone seems to be contributing. I like the depth that Atkins has brought in. It's such a relief to not have to rely on Goins and Barney as soon as one of the infielders go down. I've been impressed with the rips Diaz has been taking. Nice pickup.

Incase people were wondering what Donaldson was motioning to the White Sox dugout.

So the Sox coach actually blows a whistle when there's a good play? Jeeze, their players have to think that that's super lame. Their coaching staff looks super old and white, not sure how it bodes with such a young latino roster

I wonder if they give their players treats during the half inning if they get a whistle

Not as little as you'd think.

But it is the White Sox + Monday + cold + April.

Plus preconceived notion of the team's ability. If they're doing well after the 1st month, I'd expect it would be back up again.

Not to mention most people who are more concentrated on the leafs right now as well and i believe they had a home game tonight. What if the team is a few games over .500 by months end the leafs will be golfing and the jays will be the hot thing again.

I am saying that we need to be able to score runs without a HR... Over the course of 162 games, scoring runs with HRs only is not sustainable.. That was our problem in 2016... Especially in the playoffs etc... I hate Shapiro talk... But one word is important for offense.. "sustainable".. The Champion teams can score with the HR or manufacture runs..Look at Houston and the Royals.. Not taking anything away from the last three games.. Would just like to see we have the ability to put up 5 runs even if we don't hit the HR or manufacture a run in a close game.. Especially based on our record of one run games the past number of years.

Houston was 2nd in the majors in home runs last year sir. No offense (although I assume you're a secondary account of someone's), but you're views are seemingly based on unsubstantiated perception. Imagine if you starting making decisions in life based on facts - it might be life changing.

I did not remember Edwin running that fast in Toronto.

He used to be a very good baserunner in his earlier days in TO. He didn't run fast there. Tyler Naquin took less than 1 second more to round the bases last night in a traditional trot after hitting a home run.

Heh Heh, I was being facetious. He was actually running very awkward. However I still don't remember Edwin as a fast runner. Picked his spots.

You missed his point. He is right. Championship teams are not solely dependent on the HR. Houston was not HR or nothing, they had a complete offense that's why they were great. Being 2nd in HRs and having the ability to score in a hundred diff ways

I love the weekday games against no name teams. Get great seats for cheap, less traffic and less confusion inside/outside the stadium and you are surrounded by mostly hardcore fans.

Anyone know where you get stats on the % of runs scored via the home run?

So, if I'm understanding correctly...some people are complaining that balls are going over the wall instead of off the wall?

Ya they are hitting the ball too hard

Makes sense to score less runs and not have as many home runs, that way it shows our offence is versatile

Id take a HR over a single everyday, it's just not practical to have every player on your team do that though (unless you are the Yankees lol). Great teams score when it matters and in the playoffs pitching goes way up and homeruns go down. Meaning the ability to score via a double and a single is magnified. Is it noticeable during a 162 game schedule....yes, but not as blatant imo. There is a reason at the end of last year we ended up where we did....last place in runs (AL) and dependent on the HR. Weren't we like 40%+ runs off the HR. I think we were most in the AL or 2nd most by far.

Also, I believe only 1 team ever has won the World Series and lead baseball in HRs (could be wrong on that but I thought I read that somewhere).

So, overall....HRs rule, but you have to score other ways to be great

The reason we ended up where we did last year was because Donaldson, Tulo, Martin & Travis all were hurt for a significant amount of time, Bautista apparently died and nobody noticed, and Goins, Barney, Zeke and [insert random terrible backup catcher here] were given FAR more at-bats than they ever should have been...

I mean, it's not like Goins, Barney and Zeke were out there trying to hit home runs, and they still stunk up the joint far worse than Martin would have, even if he was "trying to hit a home run every at bat" (which, BTW, he definitely was not trying to do. Generally "try to hit the ball hard" is a big part of baseball...)

Hitting the ball hard is the goal. But we left more runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs than I have ever seen over the last 3 years. Hitting an opposite field single on a fastball away is a better use of an AB then whiffing on the same pitch trying to pull it for a HR....which over the last few years we have done more than we should.

I think this year will be different hopefully

Hitting a fly-ball to the outfield is the thing most people associate with bringing a runner home from 3rd with fewer than 2 outs. Which is achieved by trying to hit the ball hard. The issue was that we had a bunch of s***** players that weren't going to make contact regardless of what they tried to do.

Last year, it wasn't uncommon for us to field a lineup where 6/9 players were well below average. That shouldn't be a problem this year, even if they do try to hit the ball hard in most situations.
