Why are there 8 teams with scheduled off days and then 1 PPD on the first Sunday set of games

I think only four teams aren't scheduled. Not counting the game that's been postponed. Though it is weird that anyone would have an off day on Sunday.

 

Edit: I see that it is six teams, I overlooked the Pirates/Tigers doubleheader.

I agree. I think its SD/MIL, COL/ARI, ATL/PHI and then CHW/KC PPD. I have never seen that on opening week on a SUN. That's really weird

Not just opening week, but any days off on a Sunday are weird. I could definitely be wrong, but I thought off days were only on Monday and Thursday.

 

I imagine they did those days off in anticipation for spring weather rainouts so they wouldn't have to make up those games later in the year.

 

It is weird though I don't think I've ever seen a Sunday day-off.
