jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 The Blue Jays have inked lefty Jaime Garcia to a one-year deal worth $8MM, per a club announcement. The contract also includes a club option for 2019.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Author Posted February 15, 2018 This is a really solid value signing. Love it!
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 This is good. Garcia is good. As far as 5th starters go, he's better than most.

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Garcia got hit around pretty bad in his stint with the Yankees last year, so I am weary of this, but I will take it.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 So are we just shopping for cheap deals. Not using the money we supposedly were going to?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Author Posted February 15, 2018 I love how this comes the same day the Orioles give $16 million to Cashner. Yeah. Lol. Cashner projects to be worth about 0.5 fWAR while Garcia projects to be worth 2.0 fWAR. And we got himm on a 1 year commitment with a club option. It's good value

glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Looks like $8m in 2018, and $10m option for 2019 or $2m buyout. So, 1/10 guaranteed. Not too shabby. He could be a 1-2 war starter and gives the team an arm for 2019 which they desperately need.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 if he can keep his BB/9 under 3 this will be an awesome deal.
sdyment Verified Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 I was hoping for him or Vargas for the #5 spot. Hopefully Biagini in back in the bullpen, but I have a hunch that he’s going to start in Buffalo. Good deal tho. Anybody have any idea how much payroll $$$ is left? Is it around $10m?
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 So are we just shopping for cheap deals. Not using the money we supposedly were going to? We got a likely better pitcher for nearly half the cost. It's not cheap, it's effecient. It likely gives them more room if they need to sign extra pitching at this point.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 That's a fantastic deal. I was hoping for a Liriano type of guy, but this is soooo much better.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Team option is pretty cool too. Leaves us with enough money to get some decent bullpen guys.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Biagini to the pen? I hope so. He's better in the pen.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 I hope so. He's better in the pen. Deal like this could potentially improve the team two-fold then, heres to hoping.
