HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Anyone else crying a little bit? I am. Grown f***ing man in an office with some tears in his eyes. Baseball is a beautiful sport and Doc was the f***ing best. I did for a bit...I grew up on the guy and he was my idol not only in a baseball sense but someone you look up to character wise. Life is unfair. He just got the job done no matter what and never complained. Always worked hard and smart. Consummate professional.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Jays should have a patch of their uniforms next year for Doc.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I lost my father to drowning just over three months ago. When something sudden like this happens.. the pain is absolutely unbearable. Doc's family is in my thoughts and prayers. This is absolutely gut wrenching. Horrible. Retire his number immediately. Classiest Jay of all-time. Cheers Doc. It was a pleasure watching you pitch.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Anybody watching PTS? Bob Elliott sounds wasted. Doesn't he always?

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 A long way from this... What a damn shame.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Jays should have a patch of their uniforms next year for Doc. They should rename the revamped Dunedin complex after him when it's completed. It's fitting, given he went down there to remake himself.
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Roy's starts were the highlight of my week. I would look forward to them and make sure I didnt miss the game. I can't believe he died. Sad day
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 He wasn't just a great player, he was probably the most loyal and humble player this team's ever had. Hardest working too. I was so looking forward to his hall of fame speech. Holy f*** what an awful day. Bob McCowan put it well, 'Sure you can make arguements for best pitcher in the history of the Jays, but he was easily the most likeable' Never heard anything but great words about the type of person he was
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Shocking....so sad. Life is precious. You just never know. Live every day. Sorry for him and his family. An all time great Blue Jay and one of the best competitors I've ever watched. Saw him grow from the minors and all his struggles through to the end of his brilliant career. RIP Roy.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 f*** I just saw this now and I'm completely heartbroken. I share the same sentiments as the rest of you, and like a good portion of you guys, I grew up watching the Jays when Doc was the main attraction. RIP Doc
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Such a loss for baseball, the Jays organization and of course his family. His starts were magic and he was one of a small handful of players who kept the Jays relevant during those lean years. Was hoping someday he'd come back to the Jays as a coach or advisor in the future. Sad to see he'll never get to give his deserved HOF speech. RIP Roy "Doc" Halladay
CanuckofChicago Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 It goes without saying I share everyone's words. He was a total class-act. I even have the letter published in the Toronto Sun that he wrote to the public. My best friend bought me a Halladay signed ball from his All-Star game appearance. Him and his wife did great things for the city. It is sad to know that he will never throw out another first pitch or be there the HOF or the Level of Excellence. To one of the previous posters, lets retire his number, wear a patch. I wonder if the Jays will do something on Opening Day, if so I am flying up from Chicago (hoping on Porter). Maybe they will replace the Rogers statue with a Halladay one. Just so many thoughts going on right now.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Very sad news. You made me a jays fan, Doc Thank you. Rest in Peace
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 They should rename the revamped Dunedin complex after him when it's completed. It's fitting, given he went down there to remake himself. Great idea. But you know some corporation will pay for the naming rights and that'll be that.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Stunned and shocked. Sitting in my car on the driveway and can't move. No words. Rest in peace.
vdartanian Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Heartbreaking....was just reminiscing about him the other day...in his prime one of the best players I've ever watched. My condolences go out to his family! His perseverance and "Bulldog" mentality was an inspiration to me. RIP Doc
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Just heard this news and I'm devastated RIP Doc, I don't have words right now kind of taken back by it.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 A statue needs to be erected outside the Rogers Centre.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 This one hurts, really really f***ing bad. Words fail me.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 My two greatest Doc memories would be the 10 inning under 100 pitch game. Couldn't tell you the season, and I think the opponent was Detroit. I just remember how quick and masterful it was. Then of course there was the NLDS no hitter. Even more than the Perfect game this one sticks with me.

I was just starting university when that happened, and was watching it in the common room. It felt really magical (and heartbreaking when he lost it). That playoff matchup between him and Carpenter was also really something.

Yippy Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I wonder if they will ever find out what happened. It was a new plane. Maybe he wasn't trained enough?
bowld Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 So bummed to hear this news. Doesnt even seem real... As a Jays fan in Southern California I will always remember going to an Angels game when Doc was in his prime. Couple of Angel fans sitting around me got to talking and they asked me who we had pitching that day..when I told them it was Doc they all looked at each other and said "Well, so much for us winning this game." Sure enough, he was on fire like always and Jays won the game going away. RIP
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I'll remember the game I went to against A.J. Burnett with the Yanks in 09, Burnett lost it around the 5th inning while Doc outlasted him and went the distance. The atmosphere was the closest playoff atmosphere I ever had before the actual playoffs.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I wonder if that was the game AJ brushed Marco Scutaro off the plate with a pitch and Marco looked out and mouthed "BITCH!" then started laughing. I really need to GIF that. lol, I remember watching that game, then logging into bjmb to see if I had seen that right
