Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Agree on the first part. Martin's value is limited with his contract. But if you look at everything but batting average where he really has terrible luck he's having a good season. Despite some injury setbacks. His off-season workout program has worked extremely well for him. His legs have been healthy all year. Just that shoulder and neck issue. Is his Contract really that bad? He's on pace for 2.6 WAR this year, which would provide surplus value at $20M/year. You can speculate what he'll provide in 2018 and 2019, but he's certainly not a black hole - especially if a playoff team needs a catcher.

We don't need to move him, and we certainly don't need to move him just to dump him. Valuable guy to have especially when he will be key in helping transition his replacement in 2 years. Which looks at this point could be Dany Jansen.

Astros owner is a billionaire, paid $465 million for a team that has an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion and has the 6th largest metropolitan population in the US. Don't lump them in with teams like Tampa and Milwaukee. Their rebuild was intentional and well planned.

They were also the most profitable team in baseball a few years back when they had a 22M payroll and lost 111 games Lmao

And now, due to their commitment to sucking (while rolling in the profit), they are in line for sustained success that will generate copious amounts of playoff revenue and possibly a World Series win. It would appear as though someone has it all figured out.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 The risk, of course, is alienating your fanbase There's no guarantee they'll come back when you first start winning FWIW Houston is now 13th in the majors in attendance They were as low as 28th during the tear down but have climbed every year since
