o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Exactly. Bunting for hits occasionally with that speed makes a lot of sense. Sac bunts are mostly dumb and we don't do that well either. just now the jays are not doing much well. Smoak is a bright spot in an otherwise bleak roster
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 this was pretty much what we said after the game I went to last month. it's not just the losing, it's the fact that most of the team is playing like losers. Just didn't bring any energy to the game. It's like they are out of ideas of what to do and they have given up Might be time for a Brett Lawrie sighting

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 This team has played like this all year. Even if they should luck into a second wildcard, does anyone have any hope that they can all of a sudden play well. I thought the same thing last year after our September, but we got the WC win and hammered Texas. I just don't see this team rebounding to WC this year.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 That's why I said it, two posts indirectly referenced to your earlier comment, I got your back, mate! Thanks spank. You know what I was driving at.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 I don't think they lack will to win. Basically the same team that was only 1 of 3 to make post season last 2 years. We are just another year older slower and playing like s***. Bingo, these cliches are a half ass attempt at an excuse, if they reeled off a bunch of W's... there'd be plenty to smile about.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Bucket and Table talking about how Sanchez can make the difference in the second half. lol IDIOTS pitching is not the problem. a complete lack of offense is not going to change because they get a starter back.
leaffie Verified Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 But most thought the Jays underachieved all year last year, and finally started clicking near the end of the year. But this year, there is something wrong with the basic makeup of this team. Too many errors, terrible bullpen for too much of the season. starting pitching that was number one, to probably near the bottom this year. When was the last time anyone saw this team excited and even appearing interested.

Look at the Giants and Royals for example.
leaffie Verified Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Spanky of course they would be smiling, but do you honestly think this team is capable of reeling off a bunch of wins. I wish I would be dead wrong, but this team is done.

It helps, Beeg strengthens the pen, especially when we get Smith back.

leaffie Verified Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Well I hope you are right and I am wrong

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Well I hope you are right and I am wrong Well, to be fair, when I made my last GDT I noted it's must win time, if we continue to reel off losses this team will not stand pat, and likely sell.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 How predictable was that? It's not even funny anymore.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 It helps, Beeg strengthens the pen, especially when we get Smith back. still irrelevant when they can't hit a beach ball out of a phone booth. they have no offense and it's not just a couple games. it's all but a couple weeks of the first half
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 My optimism is starting to fail me, I hate to admit. Ditto, it's frustrating man.

leaffie Verified Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 You know how long I have been a Jays fan, and this is the very first time I do NOT like this team. Even when they were perennial third place, I liked the team and the players. Too many players that I would not have. But this is the team we have. I hope that Shapiro does a better job than he has done this year when he starts the rebuild.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Management's biggest challenge will be trying to rid themselves from the Tulo and the Martin contracts. Hopefully they can pull off the same magic AA did when unloading Vernon Wells.

Even if they should luck into a second wildcard, does anyone have any hope that they can all of a sudden play well. Lucking into a wild card might mean 85 or 86 wins. It took 88 wins last year. With Jays about to finish the 1st half at 37-44, they would need to go 48-33 to get to 85 wins. So that would suggest they are playing well enough to compete should they make the post season. Remember, at this point in the 2015 season, the Rangers were being written off for dead and the trade for Hamels was seen as a move for 2016. Not that I am advocating for any acquistions unless it is like a Hamels that they will have for several years going forward.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Depsite these medicore resulta, Beeg will continue to start when this team sells at the deadline, or at least he should considering he will probably be in the mix for a rotation spot next year.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Thank God Sanchez will be back, the Beeg is suited as a max effort reliever, he can't start. *sighs*
