I predicted Smoak's breakout this past offseason.

I really don't think the Saunders comparison is fair. Saunders looked like an old man getting lucky, Smoak looks like a legit slugger and the number back it up right now.

Probably because this team isn't good enough without adding. We have 2 premium prospects in A-Ball and we can trade veteran players for more prospects to build a potentially great Baseball team that can compete for championship. Not one that will struggle to stay in the wild card race.

 

We haven't even been at .500 once this year. And Smoak with that cheap option is an attractive trade chip. And for all we know he could go back to being s*** next year. While another team might see him as a beast that can help them now. It's obviously something they are going to look at it. We know Estrada is getting traded. Lets just hope he's out of his funk so we get a good prospect.

St Louis is in dire need of a middle of the order bat. It's too bad thir FO is too smart to pay anything of real value for Smoak.

While I still think it was still a little early to offer that extension, it was for peas and that belief instilled by the FO so early in a typical down year, can go a long way for his success and loyalty to the team.

It's a great surprise. I am so pleased we have Shapiro and Atkins steering this ship. AA took us to a great point, but they will take us further!
