G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 4 days left to vote No Jays game today Worth a thread to discuss the finalists Make fun of the process and game if you must And/or vote here: https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 For what it's worth, Smoak has a chance He's been as good or better by fWAR as any 1B in the AL except for Logan Morrison, and Morrion has no chance due to a .250 batting average and an uncaring fanbase

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Well, Alonso has been the much better hitter. Yes he has the best wRC+ at 1B Buch lower HR and much lower RBI than the other 2 so lots of uneducated fans won't see it that way
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Smoak is 2nd in voting I believe. Yes and it's close Trying to find the most recent numbers
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 I'm voting Smoak as much to get Hosmer off of there as anything else FFS Hosmer 0.7 WAR this year, negative 0.2 WAR last year What the f*** did he do to get these votes??
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 A month ago I'd have said Pillar, Estrada or Stroman would be the only blue jay. Now I'm leaning JD as a reserve - he's obv been our best player if you pro-rata it, but he might have missed too many games. Smoak probably isn't going to beat Hosmer in the fan vote and Miggy has a chance of being the Tigers sole representative as a reserve simply because of who he is.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I'm voting Smoak as much to get Hosmer off of there as anything else FFS Hosmer 0.7 WAR this year, negative 0.2 WAR last year What the f*** did he do to get these votes?? .300 average and name recognition. A lot of fans that don't follow anything other than their own team won't really know who Justin Smoak is.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Pillar sure f***ed himself with a month of batting futility
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 As for pitchers I can see Francona picking Stroman or Osuna
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 All star game bullpens are just insane Like a manager's wet dream "I can't decide if I should use Kenley Jansen in the 7th, or save him and bring in Scherzer"
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 As for pitchers I can see Francona picking Stroman or Osuna Who knows if Osuna would even want to do it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Who knows if Osuna would even want to do it. For sure He might prefer the time off
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Normally the all star starters have at least a few WTF selections, but the current leaders in the NL are all who I'd vote for except for 1B, and even then Zimmerman's bounce back season makes for a good story that it's fair to reward.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I'm voting Smoak as much to get Hosmer off of there as anything else FFS Hosmer 0.7 WAR this year, negative 0.2 WAR last year What the f*** did he do to get these votes?? Who knows but he played over Goldy in the WBC because Jim Leyland is an ancient windbag and also the Royals are s***** but lucky, so people need to find a reason for them being good and they've settled on Hosmer for some reason. Maybe he's an "old school" type? Madison Bumgarner, Yadier Molina and Dustin Pedroia get that same kind of undeserved love.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Pillar sure f***ed himself with a month of batting futility If we're being honest, does anyone really want to watch Kevin Pillar playing in the AS game? He's a s***** hitter and there's very little chance he's gonna make a flashy play, would probably be in a corner anyway.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Osuna's the only one worth of an all-star spot IMO. Stroman's been worse than he was last year. He's no all-star. He's a #3 pitcher on a good team. Only other guy I would support is Smoak simply because I hate Eric Hosmer.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 How is smoaks first half not ASG worthy? Oh lord did I under estimate how awful AL first basemen are these days. What a pathetic group. He's 19th in the AL in WAR amongst offensive players, so I guess he's worthy regardless. I retract my uninformed, s***** opinion. I guess in my head, he reminds of Michael Saunders last year. We called him an all-star, he played in the game, but he's a POS.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Except Smoak's success is actually sustainable. How do you figure? I mean, I sure as f*** hope this is the new Smoak, but the outlier says it isn't, nor do projections.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 How do you figure? I mean, I sure as f*** hope this is the new Smoak, but the outlier says it isn't. The low BABIP and K rate indicates that going forward, he'll be a very successful first baseman.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) The low BABIP and K rate indicates that going forward, he'll be a very successful first baseman. lol... or he's having a career year? Smoak's been a streaky hitter in the past, I hope it ends the way he's been going, sure, but... don't count your chickens just yet. Edit: Also, his BABIP is 40 points higher than his career norm, but that goes with how well he's hitting. This is likely what the Jays saw in him along with his batted ball profile. Nah I don't think he'll stay at ,960 OPS but being consistantly between ,850 and ,900 doesn't seem that much of a stretch in my opinion

Well Bautista is on the way out and we lost eddy someone has to be our new come out of no where and be useful guy lol. I think that is how projections work lol

It all(information) still doesn't suggest it's sustainable.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Well Bautista is on the way out and we lost eddy someone has to be our new come out of no where and be a monster, lol. I think that is how projections work lol Ftfy...
