Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Hold my breath any time one of our pitchers have to do anything athletic like that last out.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Estrada is so f***ing good, dear lord. Really gets everything he can out of changing speeds and locating his pitches, would love for him to help Stroman get some sort of changeup going
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Because he hit a HR? Let's see some f***ing consistency first? We can sure use it. sometimes silence is golden

You declared that Kevin Pillar would have a monster year based on a single spring training game. You don't really have the license to criticize anyone for drawing upon tiny samples.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 this guy looks ridiculous They have some pretty great hair on this team.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Lots of hair on this Mariner team. The shower drain uncloggers probably get some good OT.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Yeah, and how's that working out so far? So it was reasonable for you to do that then? This is what I'm trying to understand. If Pillar wasn't doing well this year, would your prediction still have been a rational thing to do?

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 What was it based on? Kevin Pillar had a good ST game and Gruber immediately went to the internet, knowing how we thirst for his knowledge, to make a thread declaring that a monster year was on the horizon. This was an apparently rational thing to do because Pillar is having a good season thus far. However, anyone else attempting to draw anything from tiny samples is just an idiot.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 BTW, Pearce is going to mash now that you changed your avatar. Boxy is kind of a rally killer for this team. I might have to ban him once before he becomes mod.

If Pillar wasn't doing well this year, would your prediction still have been a rational thing to do? I watched him a lot while he was in Buffalo and you can see he has great skills at getting the barrel to the ball. He's hit everywhere he's played. I just thought his swing was too long for the MLB and when i saw just how he was taking pitches with the shorter approach, i knew his contact skills would have a much better chance at success and would improve somewhat. I figured the shorter approach would close the gap and get him closer to MiLB numbers. Based on that, i took a shot at the prediction.

I don't mind drawing larger conclusions from a single game. As long as it was based on his new approach, swing, and ability to make better and harder contact. But on the flip side, absolutely others should be able to make similar conclusions from small samples as well. It's always fun to see how these long term predictions pan out based on small samples. Some certainly do pan out (Pillar so far) while others crash and burn (Snider and JPA for example).

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Smoak was all over that one. Great swing.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Hoffman starting for the Rockies and pitching pretty well 4ks through 2 innings so far.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Keep the ship steady and we should still have a chance when everyone gets healthy. Good job boys.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 5 runs isnt enough for Grilli to be in the game
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
