Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Why have an off day the day after the season starts. They should really spread them throughout the longer summer months. I think because of weather related delays for Opening Day. Gives them two chances to get the first game in where they have special Opening Day ceremonies set up and stuff.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 he barely missed the last slider..really bad idea calling for another one oh well fun game
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Dammit he threw that right down the can. Their hitters sure don't miss meat pitches
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Their hitters sure don't miss meat pitches That's because they have working class players.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 f*** off to all of the people criticizing the pitch selection or pitching. A thousand men left on base today is why the Jays lost. Pitching was solid from the first pitch to the last. EDIT: Not only LOB, but most of those were from free passes.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I blame this loss squarely on Jose Bautista. If Pearce and Bautista were swapped, we would have won.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 That's because they have working class players. How do you explain Pillar then:rolleyes:
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Good game. Lots of opportunities to score but couldn't finish the job.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Different year...same crap HR or nothing offense...better Chang or we could be in for a low scoring year HR or nothing? They had 11 hits and like 6 walks, zero home runs. What a dumb thing to say.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I blame this loss squarely on Jose Bautista. If Pearce and Bautista were swapped, we would have won. He was terrible with the bat. His defense was pretty good though. We just couldn't get any hits with runners on base. I thought Gibbons managed the game really well. I don't think he made one bad move.

The bench and back of the bullpen are terrible.

Yes he definitely saved the game though a more spry outfielder would have made that great play of his look more routine. My shoulder hurts just watching him throw one to the infield though.

You have to think that this will come together.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 It was a flawlessly managed game. Holy f*** though, he needs more weapons. The bench and back of the bullpen are terrible. Literally zero tool bench. Even the Orioles have Gentry who can run...oh wait... And to think we thought those days were behind us the moment Dickey and Thole were cast away. BP I disagree with you, they did well in this one game sample.
King Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Bautista with 8 LOB Team was 0-8 wRISP Team left 13 on base. Is this 2016? Jays ranked 7th wRC+ with men on base and 3rd in wRC+ in high leverage situations in 2016. 110 wRC+ in high leverage situations.. the Rays were last with a 65 wRC+.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Pitching was solid from the first pitch to the last. Well maybe not that last pitch as it resembled a saucy meatball.

Tepera, Leone, Loup.

I thought I was watching their first game of the season. They are awful, we have the worst record in the league. Some people here, I tell you. So much positive for the Jays in this game but some always look at the glass half empty.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Back of the bullpen... Tepera, Leone, Loup. Yes, but to be fair the Orioles were already throwing Tyler Wilson at the Jays and they supposedly have the world's best BP.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 No #clutch hitting is what he meant. If only we had had a few more strategic bunts, you know, with the bases loaded. Or try to chop some balls into the ground. What did the Jays do to indicate all or nothing? If they had only struck out/flied out with hardly any hits, ok, I get the criticism, but they were doing a great job hitting and getting on base all game. Just poor hit sequencing. An encouraging game, tbh. On another day, we win that by 6 runs.

Lots of walks and good, drawn out plate appearances. Gibbons did about as well as you can expect. Just couldn't put it all together today. If the Jays play the other 161 games like they did the first one, they will win 95 games this year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 TSN turning point. Pillar throwing two bats at the crowd. Delirious woman thinks pillar threw them at her
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I see that Gruber has the red font of death in front of his name. Oh goody, I can't wait to scroll through his last several posts to see the hilarity that resulted in that ban.

There wasn't any one moment that was egregious he was just picking fights with everyone over every little thing. EDIT: Actually just some some of his last posts. They were kind of bad.
