metafour Verified Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Tristan Pompey looks really good as well. Should be a really high pick next year. Taller and maybe a little more consitent power than Dalton. Seems to be not nearly as fast (or doesn't use his speed) but from what I have seen a better overall hitter in the long run. Dalton played in 15 MLB games at age 21 (which would be Tristan's draft age next year), don't forget that. Who knows which one ends up the better player (especially with Dalton's inability to stay healthy), but its important to note that Dalton was hitting extremely well in ~AA/AAA at the same age that Tristan will still be dicking around in College at next year.

metafour Verified Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I'm watching the Louisville vs Kentucky college game and it's full of future MLB players. When is Drew Ellis expected to be drafted? He is going off right now He should be gone in the 2nd round.

As a high school senior, Pearson received little interest from pro teams. He was a tall righthander whose fastball could reach 93, but he had no usable offspeed pitch. So he enrolled at Florida International, where he got stronger and got some experience, earning more than 30 innings that spring. Following his freshman year, Pearson transferred to the JC of Central Florida, where his stock took off. In a bullpen during the fall, Pearson's fastball touched 100, creating buzz throughout the amateur scouting community. In a starting role in the spring, Pearson pitched mostly at 93-94 and touched 97 in most starts. His fastball shows late running or sinking movement and he made tremendous growth with his command. His changeup now projects as a plus pitch, showing late fade when he locates it down in the zone. He throws both a slider and a curveball, and scouts see his slider as a more prominent part of his future. The pitch shows slurvy shape and sits in the low 80s. Pearson's athleticism and rapid growth could lead him to come off the board as high as the back of the first round. Scouts have compared him to Carl Pavano because of his size, athleticism and potent fastball-changeup combo.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 But he wasn't the age you could drive a car. He was 7 of 8 children (raised by kids) and home-schooled. Actual experts in the field assessed him and gave him almost no chance to re-offend. He was 15/16?

Caper Verified Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Just curious. Over the next few days or so the bluejays will draft and later sign (whenever that deadline is) about 30 players. When do they release the 30 guys they will need to in order to make room for the new guys?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Most roster moves have already happened. There's guys every year in the low minors that get cut, released, retire... or promoted to replace higher minors guys that have been cut, released... retired. Some will be hurt and stashed on the DL, plus the really low international signees from last year that won't be stateside will be already assigned to the Dominican summer League which started about a week ago.

I've only read reports on him, never seen him play. Why not push for a high school pitcher that also have a "Great fastball, work on off-speed pitches needed" profile? Even if the high school names won't be there when the Jays pick (Baz, Carlson) I'd prefer Brendon Little over Pearson. Plus he has had screws in his arms, what impact could that have to the longevity? Seems like a Derek Mcguire pick. I trust the Jays and their scouting but man, it may take me time to come around to him if picked. Good news is this is from Law and he's usually 100% wrong. /yea... still not a scout/

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Just saw Gavin Sheets. Looks to become a great all around hitter. Tons of power and limits the Ks. Makes solid contact. Starts with a stance similar to Adam Dunn but profiles with more contact and less swing and miss then Dunn imo. Would be a great pick

Looking at the guys now people were so hyped on. Man, so many did absolutely nothing. Mark Appel, for all the fuss and controversy doesn't even look like he will make the bigs.

Maybe because he dominated against very good JUCO competition and thus has already proven more than any HS pitcher in this draft.

I don't know s*** about these prospects, hell haven't seen a single one play. I enjoy reading and seeing videos but clearly there is still a lot I miss. If I am misreading his potential, great.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Likelihood D.J. Davis is cut free? Well, this is his 6th minor league season and hasn't done anything to prove himself, so probably pretty good. But not likely during the season since he's at Dunedin and that roster likely won't change much due to anyone they draft. He's probably an offseason release candidate.

I remember how so many people hated how the Jays were rumoured to take Trea Turner when they had those 2 top picks in 2014. Now he looks like a top 3 player from that draft. Better not to make a fuss about who the team picks because who knows how they will develop in a few years.

Yeah, it's almost as if the professional baseball scouts know more than a bunch of guys on a message board who have never seen any of these guys play.
