Only Matty V can try to polish that turd ending. "In most dramatic fashion". You have to be kidding me.

Walk off sac fly yay.

Or how about won by an inning ending double play. The sac fly didn't win it...that did. I don't understand how forcing action is so hated by people.

Okay, the rule is garbage. But everyone can agree that in spring training the games need to end really quickly in extras.

What would a better rule be?

What base states would be better? Should they manipulate the ball-strike count instead, or in addition?

It's not Baseball. I love seeing a bunt followed by an intentional walk. So exciting! /green

Because it adds even more luck to a game that doesnt ask for it.

Spring training games should just end in a tie after 9 innings. Easy solution, no need to defile this sacred game.

Is there a base-state with a similar RE, more conducive to entertainment?

Why not bases loaded, 1 out? Or man on 3rd, no outs?

The 10th inning might as well kick things off with 0 outs, man on first. Double the run expectancy in the 10th.

Expand the rosters allowing more pitchers. If you go 18 innings or something you can try that stupid concept.

If they are going to start the inning with 2 base runners. They should start every count 2-2 so we don't see bunts and you put as much pressure on the batter as the pitching and defence.

Pretty much anything is better.

And the smartest of the baseball minds won't do that.

If it's reversed and ends with a Strikeout and double play to end it that is action to me.

Shootout like HR derby would at least be exciting.

Each team gets three hitters. Most total bases wins the game.

It's not just a tournament rule it is an international baseball rule. They don't want to change the rules for each tournament as that sets precedents which organizations can use against the International body. Boxing Canada allowed an organization put headgear back on...now everyone is putting it back on and AIBA looks stupid (sorry for the boxing reference but it's what I'm working in and I see this stuff happening.

I still stand by the rule and have no issue with MLB going to it...and watching it evolve.

How about in extra innings - it becomes 3 pitch.

Pitch to your own team, underhand. Each squad gets to send five hitters to the plate, then the inning is over (unless 3 outs comes first).

There. Done.

Sliding is generally frowned upon. Metal bats become legal.

Maybe because I've lived through real change in baseball that I can understand it better. You young guys that talk about changing the game...it's just that talk. All the sarcasm heard about this rule was heard for 3 on 3 hockey...and probably every rule change ever. Change is okay guys!

So all those 7 double plays in the game were luck? Pitchers who strike out more guys and get more ground balls are just lucky. Defenders being in the spot where the ball goes is just luck? It's still just baseball. The only unfortunate thing about it is that because of this rule there will be less of it (believe me I love long games). I'm waking at 5 am regardless when this game ended and I would have stayed up. But it's not worth it for everyone.

I'm fine with 3 on 3 in hockey. But the overtime needs to be 10 minutes not 5.

I'm just guessing that the International body wouldn't look for that kind of data. MLB should and you should be emailing them (man on third none out is much better)

longer OT doesn't make it. Long extra innings don't make it.

I just think it will prevent more games from going to the shootout. Lot of the time when watching 3 on 3 OT they play with the puck for 3 minutes and than go all out for the final 2 and after amazing end to end the action the horn goes. 5 more minutes would be really fun.
