BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 A pre-emptive TJ wouldn't happen, but that is what I would want as the AA FO. He's almost ready for the start of 2019 that way. You still have oodles of cheap control. Meh, that's what everyone said about Tanaka and he's given them three great years since the UCL tear was reported.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Ohtani's right arm could literally be gone and the $20M posting fee is still a great deal. Yes, but the Angels need to contend NOW--as Mike Trout is a free agent in 2020 and will not want to continue to play for a losing club like the Angels, as he's seen only 1 playoff series in his career (2014), and would like to play for an actual contender, especially if he has a shot to get a record contract by then.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Shatkins going to do anything? We missed out on both Smyly and Pineda.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Twins sign Pineda 2 years 2M then 8M
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 This might explain why Ohtani decided to leave Japan early.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Twins sign Pineda 2 years 2M then 8M That's a great signing for the Twins, even if he ends up missing the whole of 2018.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 That's a great signing for the Twins, even if he ends up missing the whole of 2018. Yeah if they get anything out of him in late 2018 it's just a bonus
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Twins sign Pineda 2 years 2M then 8M Wo im dumn I didn't even realize Pineda was a free agent. That seems like a steal, his medicals must be fuct.

He had his Tommy John surgery in late July That's such a s***** time to need it, half way through a contract year on a playoff team He could conceivably pitch late next season maybe in a bullpen role at first
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Blue Jays met with CC Sabathia on Tuesday According to George A. King III of the New York Post, the Blue Jays met with free agent starter CC Sabathia on Tuesday. Sabathia seemed poised for a return to the Yankees when the offseason began and Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports noted Tuesday that the two parties remain in touch, but the Angels were reported to have interest on Sunday night and now the Jays are also in the mix. The veteran left-hander posted an impressive 3.69 ERA (122 ERA+) in 148 2/3 innings with New York in 2017.

I still think he sticks with the Yankees but he's really not a bad option.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Don't get the hate for CC. He's a 5th starter who gets ground balls and doesn't require a 3 yr deal
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Some team desperate for "power" will sign Bautista to a 1 year deal
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Scott Boras quoted as saying that the Marlins have become a "pawn shop" LMAO
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 My completely unscientific and unresearched opinion on Bautista's swing is that he just doesn't have the bat speed to match his selective approach. To me "fixing his swing" means starting the swing earlier, chasing more pitches and striking out a lot while occasionally putting a charge in one.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 So the Rockies have signed Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee to 3/27 contracts, and are now closing in on a deal with Greg Holland. They're going to be paying that trio of relievers a combined $30+M year. That is NOT how you assemble a bullpen.

They finally have assembled a decent core and they are seemingly pissing it away with big money for good not great relief pitchers. Terrible
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Relief pitcher salaries are getting out of control We could have gotten a HAUL for Osuna last off season or at the trade deadline
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Relief pitcher salaries are getting out of control We could have gotten a HAUL for Osuna last off season or at the trade deadline Sounds to me relief stock is going up faster than cryptocurrency. The correct move was HOLD on Osuna (and Tepera, Barnes, Leone) and see what you can get now before the bubble bursts. Or maybe we shouldn't trust the brain fart of one organization just yet. So basically the Rockies laid down a Stanton contract for Tepera, Barnes and Leone lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Relief pitcher salaries are getting out of control We could have gotten a HAUL for Osuna last off season or at the trade deadline If anything, he might be worth MORE now than at the deadline with the salary inflation.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 If anything, he might be worth MORE now than at the deadline with the salary inflation. I suppose No one was paying these prices for any relief pitchers unless there were elite closers At the same time, Osuna starts making real money in 2018 (arb-1). His salary probably goes up 10x from 2017 to 2018. Another year of 30+ saves and he probably gets over 10M in 2019.
