burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Shouldn't be hard to extend Stroman he seems to really like Toronto. I think he likes $ more.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 We are f***ed. Put Jays in the NL Central please
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Wonder what it would take to get him.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Rather trade for Yelich and take Prado back with him. If we are taking back a bad contract, I'd rather it be Chen. He can slot in as our 5th starter.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Jays showing interest in Jay Bruce...again. Why????
Ray Verified Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Chen makes like 25M in 2019 and 2020 if I'm not mistaken. $18M in 2018, $20M in 2019, $22M in 2020. Not great, but to get someone like a Yelich absolutely worth it. You get one of the best contracts in baseball with someone like Yelich who's locked up for 5 years. Extract whatever value you can out of the 5th starter spot from Chen. Two birds, one stone.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 You compare Miggy and Pujols contracts to Stantons: Assuming Stanton doesn't opt out, from ages 31-37 he'll be getting paid $26.8M by the Yankees, which won't even look like that much compared to what other guys are gonna be making by that point because of contract inflation. Not to mention they won't have to pay for Stantons 38-42 age seasons unlike the other teams have to for Votto, Miggy, and Pujols. Cashman pulled off a hell of a deal. You're forgetting the high liklihoodood of a Stanton opt out. If he has a great few seasons, its a no brainer to opt out and test free agency again. Yankees may not even have to deal with any art of his decline phase

Yankees may not even have to deal with any art of his decline phase Stanton would be opting out of a guaranteed 7/218 + NTC at age 31. If Dave Dombrowski is still a GM in three years, then maybe he could get more than 7/218 in his 30's, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yankees may not even have to deal with any art of his decline phase I don't think there's a high likelihood he opts out at all. Highly doubt he does better than 7/218 + a NTC at age 31. Also, his agent has said as much:
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Don't question the Shat. Go get him already then!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 The Yankees are looking insanely good: Lineup: C. Gary Sanchez 1B. Greg Bird 2B. Gleybar Torres SS. Didi Gregorious 3B. Chase Headley/Miguel Andujar RF. Aaron Judge CF. Jacoby Ellsbury LF. Aaron Hicks DH. Giancarlo Stanton Rotation: 1. Luis Severino 2. Masahiro Tanaka 3. Sonny Gray 4. Jordan Montgomery 5. Luis Cessa Bullpen: 1. Aroldis Chapman (CL) 2. David Robertson (SU) 3. Tommy Kahnle 4. Chad Green 5. Dellin Betances Meanwhile they still have solid cheap starting pitching depth in the minors like Chance Adams, Justus Sheffield, and Domingo Acevedo who can easily slot in that 5th starter spot, but at this point they should go full super team and trade a package of Clint Frazier for a top of the rotation guy like Gerrit Cole. It might also serve them well if they can get a good defensive catcher since Sanchez' isn't the best blocker You forgot Brett Gardner. Ellsbury is the 4th OFer...
Ray Verified Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 You forgot Brett Gardner. Ellsbury is the 4th OFer... $21M 4th OF and pinch runner.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 You forgot Brett Gardner. Ellsbury is the 4th OFer... If they can find someway to move Ellsbury you can bet your ass they will get rid of him. I think the only way they can do it though is if they eat some money.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Remember when Ellsbury was the best player in baseball in 2011? The good ole days. It's too bad he plays for the Yanks - as he'd be a decent fit for the Jays if the Yanks would eat 40%+ of his contract. I'd take him at 3 years, $13.66M AAV.

Sources from the usual reporters say the Yankees have offered to eat *half* his salary in a trade in order to unload him Edited December 12, 2017 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 I almost hope the Orioles feel they screwed up with Arrietta and blow 200M to get him back now They can't seem to convince any other SP to sign LOL

Maybe Boras added some pop-ups this year - everyone loves pop-ups!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Soooo the Padres are trying to sign Hosmer and the Phillies are trying to sign Arrieta? I can't think of two worse matches.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 The max I'd be giving Arrieta is about 4 years, $70M after the obvious decline & wear and tear he's shown the last two seasons. Since 2015, his FB velo has dropped from 94.6 to 92.1, his SwStr has dropped from 11.1% to 8.7%, his GB rate has dropped from 56.2% to 45.1%, his HR rate has almost doubled. Just massive dropoff across the board, and he'll be 32 before the season starts. Any GM would be truly insane to give him 5 years and 9 figures.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Padres acquire Headley and Mitchell. This is big for NY if they're eating the entire 13M Headley is owed.

Interesting that the Yankees have now traded their starting 2B and starting 3B. I wonder if they are heavily in on Machado, and what this says about Gleyber's recovery timeline.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Lol wut. Boras trying to pretend like 2017 didn't happen or something
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Buck Showalter being a total pick and yet sort of funny on MLB Network
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Safe to say if he is looking for 200M he doesn't sign before Spring Training starts. This guy is not a f***ing ace lol.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Yankees want Moustakas now maybe? Or holding out for Machado/Donaldson No way they trade Headley and Castro unless the have something else already close to done
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Lol wut. According to Scott Boras, every player is best interpreted as their career year, which they will re-produce annually until retirement. Age and decline are fake news. Pay for what my client did, not what he will do! I honestly think Scott Boras might be shockingly ill-educated about baseball. In reality he's probably just a dickhead lawyer who starts high and negotiates like an ******* because of his reputation and client list. The figures that he puts out in the public realm are almost never rooted in reality.
