Name me 10+ significant transactions from last offseason up to November 22. I don't think you'll be successful.

Houston Astros traded RHP Pat Neshek to Philadelphia Phillies for Player To Be Named Later.

Los Angeles Dodgers traded C Carlos Ruiz to Seattle Mariners for LHP Vidal Nuno.

Los Angeles Dodgers traded LF Howie Kendrick to Philadelphia Phillies for 1B Darin Ruf and Darnell Sweeney.

Oakland Athletics traded 1B Danny Valencia to Seattle Mariners for RHP Paul Blackburn.

New York Yankees traded C Brian McCann and cash to Houston Astros for RHP Albert Abreu and RHP Jorge Guzman.

St. Louis Cardinals signed free agent LHP Brett Cecil.

Texas Rangers signed free agent RHP Andrew Cashner.

Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent DH Kendrys Morales.

Atlanta Braves signed free agent RHP Bartolo Colon.

Houston Astros signed free agent RHP Charlie Morton.

Los Angeles Angels signed free agent RHP Jesse Chavez.

Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent Lourdes Gurriel.

Atlanta Braves signed free agent RHP R.A. Dickey.

And for kicks, on the 23rd:

Seattle Mariners traded SS Ketel Marte and RHP Taijuan Walker to Arizona Diamondbacks for SS Jean Segura, CF Mitch Haniger and LHP Zac Curtis.

Houston Astros signed free agent RF Josh Reddick.

Cliffs: I'm right. You're wrong. Eat a dick, you pedantic asshat.

Lol @ the majority of these being considered "significant". Charlie Morton was as boring as a signing could get at the time, there's a few there which you might consider not yawning over.

If a Ryon Healy for Emilio Pagan deal is significant, than Morton signing a 14M deal is significant.

Please just accept your L. This is undignified. Nobody wants to be Grant.

THE OFFSEASON HAS ALWAYS BEEN ACTION PACKED FROM THE BEGINNING FOR THE LAST DECADE NOW AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

That's not what I said. Let's recap:

- I said that Healy for Pagan was the only significant move, and that it's rare to have so few significant moves at this point.

- You took issue with that, and asked for 10+ significant moves made last year at this point in time.

- I provided 14 moves that were either trades of established full-time MLB players, or free agent signings for guaranteed MLB deals (and two more on the 23rd). There has, I believe, been one such transaction this offseason.

- You refuse to concede that this year has, in fact, been significantly slower than last year to this point, despite the fact that it has quite clearly been slower than last year (and 2015, and probably 2014 etc...).

I thought my Grant troll was an obvious giveaway. I agree nothing major has happened up to this moment, and certainly more moves had been made at this stage a year ago, but my point is that the offseason is still very young so there's not much to get anxious about. Having been confirmed that Ohtani will be posted, along with the Braves/Coppolella scandal seem like pretty significant events even if they aren't a team acquiring someone, neither of those are things that happen every year.

Ohtani and Stanton are holding everything up. Might have to wait a few weeks before anything major happens. The free agent market being absolute dog s*** is likely a factor as well.

He'd be a lot more expensive then the guys being suggested.

You're probably right. He really is the perfect fit though. Switch hitter, lead-off, can play infield + outfield.

We're probably not gonna get one of these utility types that are already established since they're so hard to come by. Gonna have to take a gamble and trade for someone unproven like the Dodgers did with Chris Taylor.

So, has anyone noticed that the offseason is off to a slow start this year? I think Stanton and Ohtani might be holding things up.

That would be the smart route. There are two players I always bring up that I won’t mention by name to avoid Brownie being triggered, but those two plus others who are blocked on other teams or coming off down seasons should be explored. There has to be a middle ground between overpaying for Nunez and counting on Ryan Goins again.

Lourdes Gurriel?

Jays signing JD Martinez would make moving Donaldson for prospects palatable to the casuals. This move was mentioned at end of Cameron's chat yesterday.

The negotiations can take place but it cannot happen until Stanton

I'm almost positive I'd prefer to have an extended Donaldson than JDM + Donaldson trade return.

Comes down to $$$

I trust Shatkins with the math, if these moves happen Donaldson too expensive

Or they plan to resign Donaldson after 2018 :)

You really figure Gurriel can be that good ?hoping your right.

Sure, why not? Plus I was responding to Ray's post(above)... he's exactly that player he suggests, it's why we signed Gurriel, we've already made the acquisition for a risk/reward player.

Josh Harrison makes a lot of sense since he can play (a very good) 2b and 3b, plus has played some outfield. Probably a decent stop gap in 2019 when JD leaves as well. Not a big sample at short for him, but chances are Goins will be the back up there anyway just because we can't have nice things. The Pirates would trade anyone if it saved them 25 cents, and $10m is significant enough for them to possibly make a move. Not sure what they'd want in return though.

And they have Adam Frasier who could assume Harrison's role.

The casuals don't follow the other teams enough to be swayed by a J.D. Martinez signing.

Perhaps. I refer to it only as one of the rumoured moves that would be on hold due to Stanton/Ohtani.

Lourdes Gurriel?

An option, but reports of him aren't exactly glowing, plus it's not like he's tearing up the minors. At least with someone like Taylor he did really well in the minors with a career slashline of .314/.400/.458. Plus the Dodgers weren't exactly pinning their hopes on Taylor. He just kinda broke out. They still had plenty of depth ahead of him. I'd be wary of having Lourdes Gurriel as our primary UTIL option going into next season. I'd want another guy just to be sure. More depth never hurts.

Goins/Harrison wouldn't be so bad. It's a good configuration. A defense first guy for shortstop and someone with a bat for everything else. The frustrations with Goins were exacerbated by the fact that he and Barney had roughly the same skill set. For the rare times the Jays might need a second bench shortstop, Ngoepe would be a phone call away.

Am I the only one that finds it ridiculous that JD Martinez is gonna get as big of a contract as he is? Atrocious base runner. Atrocious defender. Career BABIP of .341 with a 25.2 K% and a 8 BB%. As soon as his contact/power diminishes he'll become a pumpkin.

Maybe I'll be wrong like I was with the Matt Holliday/Cardinals contract, but JDM seems like a landmine waiting to happen.

I tend to agree, but when you hit 50% better than league average - you get paid. He's basically where Giancarlo Stanton is going to be in 2-3 years (possibly when he evokes his opt-out).

Except Harrison doesn't really have much of a bat. wRC+ of 98, 86 and 104 over the past 3 years.
