Devers with a pair of home runs tonight, and it's only the 5th inning.

Dinger is probably fapping to this as we speak.

One oppo over the Monster and one curveball that he pulled. It's the all field power that really turns my crank. He's got Miggy power, a lot of his dongs go center-oppo. His trajectory this year is astonishing, I think there's every indication he's going to be an elite hitter.

Shocking if its true.

Blue Jays might be in a good position here based on their current position in the standings. They need a RF and Stanton would be a huge add to this lineup moving forward. Looks like the Marlins want to rid themselves of salary.

You know the Yankees are going to add one or both Harper or Machado after 2018, and the Red Sox have a solid young nucleus of superstar talent. Stanton is type of player the Jays need to remain relevant in the AL East for the next 4-5 years.

He has 10/295 left on his contract, and he will be 28 next season.

Hell to the no on Stanton. The first half of that contract will probably be fine, but the last five could be brutal.

Man, I'd love for Stanton to become a Jay but I can't see it happening. With the impending sale of the Marlins I don't know why new ownership would want to get rid of a cornerstone/franchise guy. And, even if they wanted to for salary purposes, they'd demand a haul of young cost controlled talent - starting with Vladdy/Bichette/Stroman/etc. At that point it's counterproductive for the team moving forward.

Actually we are an ideal team to absorb (most of) that contract. We don't have a lot of salary on the books after 2018 and he's still in his prime. God, he could blast 60 HR at Rogers Centre. Our FO has shown a willingness to use money rather than prospect capital. Fap. Flex that financial muscle, Shatkins!

They would probably eat some money in order to get actual prospects. If we could get that deal down to like 10/$250, I'd be interested. $25M AAV won't seem very exorbitant by the time he is 35, due to inflation.

I don't see it happening because the dollars are so huge and Miami would be toasted if they traded him without getting some nice talent in return. I can't see the combined cost working.

I'd take on that whole contract to get him for some b-assets, but I don't see it happening.

Stanton in the RC would be scary.

Would the Marlins be in a position to demand guys like Vladdy/Bichette and Stroman though? I would be willing to deal someone like an Aaron Sanchez (who is a Boras client) and the Jays likely know that he'll be going to free agency regardless so the chances of signing him to a team friendly extension are probably moot at this point.

Absolutely not. Unless they eat significant dollars, they won't get any elite prospects for him. Even then, you just don't trade a top 5 hitting prospect unless you're getting an amazing player on a sweet contract.

Plus in the AL, always have the option to DH him in his late 30's. Could still end up being productive like David Ortiz or Nelson Cruz as a DH in the last 4-5 years of his deal.

I'm not worried about the money TBH. He likely gets a similar contract as a FA, maybe with 1-2 less years. Otherwise, when you factor inflation like you said, $25-28M AAV won't seem that expensive.

Having a middle-of-the-order featuring Donaldson, Stanton and Smoak in 2018 would be f***ing sweet.

It's not so much the Aav, but the fact that he could be an issue just having on the roster. How many sluggers like him without super elite plate discipline age gracefully? Even Bautista who did have great plate discipline saw a big drop off at age 35-36, and Stanton will be signed until 38.

It's an Alex A move. A move that will provide value and excitement for the first few years until you realize you're stuck with a former great player in his twilight making big money towards the mid/end of the deal.

I'll take the elite slugger for the next 5 years and worry about after that... after that.

I still say if the Yankees can't sign Harper rhat they'll trade for Stanton

Interesting thought at Jeter being involved in a trade to send his superstar player to the Yankees..

another issue with a Stanton trade is that his contract has an opt out after 2020. Although that would mean forgoing 7/208 for a player about to turn 31 in 3 years time, so the likelihood that he actually does opt out could be considered low.

Can't see the Marlins trading Stanton now that Loria sold the team. Stanton would of been a lock to be traded this off season had the sale not gone through.

If you aren't trading elite prospects to get him, him opting out is probably the best thing that could happen to you.

Right, but on the flip side, the specter of him opting out should reduce the prospect haul required to make the deal

Red Sox are gonna sure hope Price opts out in a few years

Nobody in their right mind would opt out of that contract even if they didn't like their team situation.

No wonder he is always injured.

Still collecting a pay check and doesn't have to be in Boston

He's going to blast 60 Hrs playing half his games in Miami, lol.

Estrada claimed on waivers according to Morosi, so they have 48 hours to work out a trade with this mystery team. Interesting to see if anything happens.
