G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 This made me look up contracts and WAR for some of the big signings Cano put up 6 fWAR (7.3 bWAR) last year, damn... He could easily continue to supply value for a few more years at his 24M per season rate Contract is still at least 2 years too long but...
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Not gonna lie, looking at all these different rosters for the WBC has me pretty excited for the tournament. Look at it!
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 lol Notice no Martin and Saunders, apparently they pulled out today.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 No Votto, Martin, Saunders, Taillon, Paxton, Lawrie, Quantrill... it's hard to take this tournament seriously. Edit: Soroka, too.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Disappointed we don't get to see Martin play Short. Apparently its because he had knee surgery in the offseason and insurance won't let him do it. Didn't know Happ was pitching for USA, thats interesting. Still should be really fun to watch. USA and Dominican are f***in stacked.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 No Votto, Martin, Saunders, Taillon, Paxton, Lawrie, Quantrill... it's hard to take this tournament seriously. Why don't you just enjoy it for what it is? Watching super teams like USA and Domincan is going to be entertaining and beats watching Ryan Borucki vs scrubs from a s***** camera angle and thats even if SN decides to air the game...

King Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Alec Mills to the Cubs for Donnie Dewees. I wanted Mills
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 No Votto, Martin, Saunders, Taillon, Paxton, Lawrie, Quantrill... it's hard to take this tournament seriously. Edit: Soroka, too. I think the ego of the Canadians is too big to let them get beaten badly. Morneau is really the only guy that always represented, and gave it his all, whenever he could. Votto's excuse was pretty bloody pathetic. I'll be going to RC next time Cincinatti is in town to boo him.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 It would be awesome to see Pompey excel in the WBC v. Some top talent....
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 It is extremely disappointing that basically all our best players decided not to play. Especially when Freddie Freeman decided to play for us this year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 lol It's pretty bad. Lawrie, Martin, Saunders, and Votto are huge subtractions. Can't blame any pitcher for not representing (Paxton, Taillon get free passes from me.) Also can't really blame Martin and Saunders. Even guys like Rob Zastryzny hurt. A young lefty with a half-decent track record starting in the minors. Sean Jamieson - OBP minor league SS - where is he? Ryan Kellogg and Soroka and Quantrill also get passes from me because arms and actual prospects. Can Vlad for us play next WBC? 1B Freeman DH Morneau C Kottaras / Deglan 2B Pete Orr? Jonathan Malo? 3B Eric Wood? Jamie Romak? SS Daniel Pinero CF Pompey OF O'Neill OF Tosoni? Crouse? Nick Pivetta - Ace It'll be fun to get looks at some of the young guys, regardless. And even some of the old guys. A lot will be riding on guys like Pinero, Wood, O'Neill, Pompey, Pivetta. They can all play baseball so it's not a lost cause.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Could Vlad have played this year? That would've been fun.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 (edited) lol I like how Gagne and Dempster havent pitched for 11 years combined. Even if they were at their peaks this team would have little chance. Also where is Rob Ducey and Paul Quantrill? Edit: I wish Stubby Clapp still played (just for his name). Edited February 9, 2017 by closetjaysfan
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Josh Johnson might as well have pitched, too, before retiring.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Josh Johnson might as well have pitched, too, before retiring. I'm surprised his arm has not been amputated yet.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I like how Gagne and Dempster havent pitched for 11 years combined. On the plus side, their arms should be very fresh.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 No Votto, Martin, Saunders, Taillon, Paxton, Lawrie, Quantrill... it's hard to take this tournament seriously. Edit: Soroka, too. This tournament is almost over. Maybe 1 or 2 more years. RD won they title. USA and Venezuela needs to win te next 2 tournament to finish this failed event.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 By Steve Adams | February 9, 2017 at 1:16pm CDT First baseman/designated hitter Byung Ho Park has cleared waivers and been outrighted off the Twins’ 40-man roster, reports La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The team has since announced the move. Park will be in camp with the Twins as a non-roster invitee in Spring Training. Park was somewhat surprisingly designated for assignment last week in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Matt Belisle, who signed as a free agent. However, the guaranteed $9.25MM remaining on Park’s contract allowed him to pass through waivers unclaimed, and he’ll now remain with the Twins and vie for a job in camp or early this season after getting in some work with the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate in Rochester.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Twins would have to eat how much of that salary in order to trade him? 2017 30 Minnesota Twins $2,750,000 2018 31 Minnesota Twins $3,000,000 2019 32 Minnesota Twins $3,000,000 2020 33 Minnesota Twins *$6,500,000 $6.5M Team Option, $500k Buyout
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I remember that Vlad homerun from the Expos broadcast of it. Dave Van Horne was saying: "I hope they go right after Guerrero here."
