Ray Verified Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 That's two guys I really wanted off the board today. Jackson and Holland would've been really nice. Have the numbers on Holland been released yet?

Have the numbers on Holland been released yet? Jeff Passan Verified account @JeffPassan Source: Greg Holland's deal with the Rockies is one year, $7M guaranteed. Non-closing incentives take it to $10M. Could get $14M as closer.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 That's a ton of f***ing money for a guy in Holland's scenario
Ray Verified Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Rockies can do all they want to try and compete, but that rotation is still scrub-city.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Yeah, it might've fallen a bit flat.... lol... they still have many cheap options for a slugging 1st baseman. I just can't believe they'll waste his defense. Edit: Well, after that s*** changes, maybe Lind?

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 That would be truly insane, paying him $14M. He's damaged goods and currently sitting 88-91 MPH. The Rockies are clueless. Then again, I should expect no less from the team that traded Corey Dickerson for a reliever.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 The Rockies have paid $99M + a 1st round pick for Ian Desmond, Mike Dunn, and Greg Holland this offseason lol.

Ray Verified Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 In a vacuum those signings aren't bad. I'd even venture to say they're good. It's just the actual deals are pretty terrible. 3 years and $19 million for Mike Dunn?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Rockies can do all they want to try and compete, but that rotation is still scrub-city. I wouldn't call it scrub city, a little wet behind the ears, sure. Pitchers in that park are always going to be mis-construed.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Rockies can do all they want to try and compete, but that rotation is still scrub-city. Jon Gray is a stud and Tyler Anderson is really good. Then you have some averageish guys in Bettis/Chatwood at 3/4 and Hoffman/Marquez/whoever with upside rounding it out for the 5th spot. It's really not bad.

It's weird but true.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Rockies can do all they want to try and compete, but that rotation is still scrub-city. I think their rotation is pretty good. Jon Gray might be an ace, Tyler Anderson looks like a good mid-rotation guy, and then you have Chatwood, Hoffman, and Bettis as league average guys.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Well, I guess I didn't need to make that post.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Rockies have a pretty good team. Management still seems clueless, however.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Carlos Frias DFA'd. Him and Severino Gonzalez could be good SP depth. Not sure if Frias has options like Gonzalez though. I would think Shatkins would be in on these guys. Severino Gonzalez was already picked up or traded for (I forget the team).
baubau Verified Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Indians sign Austin Jackson to a minor league deal: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/indians-nearing-deal-with-austin-jackson.html Jackson and the Indians are in agreement on a minor league deal that comes with a $1.5MM base salary, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports (Twitter link). He can earn up to $4MM worth of incentives in addition to that base, and Heyman also tweets that Jackson has an opt-out clause in his deal that comes at the end of Spring Training. Damn Cleveland.. good sign.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 For a good little while there I thought we were discussing Derek Holland.
jerb Verified Member Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Ken Rosenthal Verified account @Ken_Rosenthal Source: RHP Scott Feldman to #Reds on one-year, $2.3M contract. Deal could max out at $4.5M with incentives. Has passed physical; deal done.

jerb Verified Member Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Jeff Passan Verified account @JeffPassan Source: Dodgers sign Brandon Morrow to a non-roster deal. He'll be a reliever, and if he stays healthy, he's got a good shot to make team.

Then you have some averageish guys in Bettis/Chatwood at 3/4 and Hoffman/Marquez/whoever with upside rounding it out for the 5th spot. It's really not bad. Fair enough. Probably underselling Rockies rotation a bit. Didn't realize how young their rotation really is. And Hoffman is gonna be good too. Rockies did add some good pieces this offseason, but man did they overpay. Mike Dunn is good, a several year contract isn't smart. That's exactly what I mean. Signing Dunn is a good move. Paying him $19 mil over 3 years isn't. Granted they probably had to overpay to get him at Coors, but still.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 It's hard not to laugh when seeing "if he stays healthy" and "Brandon Morrow" in the same sentence No. Offense to the guy I loved him but damn...
