TholesWeirdEye Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 White Sox DFAd Jason Coats--should the Jays take a flyer on him? Why the hell not.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 There goes another corner OF option although 4 years of Karns seems like a pretty steep price for one year of Dyson, no?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Not a bad deal for either side--Mariners get better defensively with more speed on the basepaths, Royals get a controllable starter--which they DESPERATELY need, allowing them to move Matt Strahm back to the bullpen.

Yeah I can see what the Royals are doing. They basically turned two good players on the last year of their deals (Davis and Dyson) and turned them in to two average players with control (Soler and Karns). Not inspiring moves but it at least fills a couple of holes for the next few years.

I wonder how long it'll take for the Mariners to move Dyson to 1B, or DH, or something? That's their MO, isn't it? Move good defensive players to other positions, and move 1B/DH guys to the OF? On a personal note, in the LOD I was really REALLY looking forward to Strahm getting a chance to start

Ray Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Royals window is gone. I 100% expect them to be sellers at the deadline. Will be interesting to see where guys like Cain, Escobar, Moustakas, and Hosmer end up

King Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 So the Mariners are looking a lot different than they did 3 months ago. C - Zunino/Ruiz 1B - Vogelbach/Valencia 2B - Cano SS - Segura 3B - Seager (Valencia) OF - Haniger, Dyson, Leonys Martin, Ben Gamel/Guillermo Heredia DH - Nelson Cruz SP - Felix SP - Iwakuma SP - Paxton SP - Gallardo SP - Ariel Miranda SP - Chris Heston RP - Diaz/Cishek/Scrabble/ Scribner/Vincent Fangraphs has them at a projected 81 wins.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 That's a team easily in the mix for a wildcard spot if health and a few games go their way.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 That's a team easily in the mix for a wildcard spot if health and a few games go their way. It's not too hard to see a few of or all of Felix, Paxton, Iwakuma and Gallardo spending a significant amount of time on the DL
Ray Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Mariners are looking decent. Think the Astros have that division all but locked up though. Especially if they get Quintana. Wildcard race is looking tough. Tigers, Mariners, Yankees, Rangers.

I do agree with you, though.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Watch Gallardo thrive in Safeco lol.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Jays and Angels are in that race as well. Not with our current OF we won't.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Not with our current OF we won't.Give it time. Valbuena, Moss, Bautista are all still available. There are players to be had via trade. I'm sure Shatkins realize they can't break camp with the current OF.

Valbuena + an OF would be the most ideal, I think. I'd even take Bautista at this point, but only if he's a good value 1 or 2 year deal. The value of the draft pick needs to be factored in to anything he signs, imo.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Best used vs. RHP and as a DH--his OF defense is trash. He would have been perfect to platoon with Upton
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Is Karns the next Wade Davis??? Sad to see Dyson go.
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Is Karns the next Wade Davis??? Sad to see Dyson go. Me too. Would have loved for the Jays to somehow swing a deal for him.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Dammit, Dyson would have been a great fit for the Jays. Oh well.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Really wanted Dyson. I wonder if KC would have taken Estrada over Karns.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Really wanted Dyson. I wonder if KC would have taken Estrada over Karns. Probably not since Karns has more control.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Probably not since Karns has more control. Yeah. Two extra years of control and makes like 13.5M less than Estrada this year.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Would they have taken Biagini?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Estrada is a free agent after 2017 just like the rest of their team. I doubt they would have done that. If the Jays still had Hutchison, that probably would have been the type of pitcher they would have went for (think he has 3 years of control left, while Karns has 4).
