RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 This would be easy to take if we just saw what is the plan on improving this team. I mean we can't be done here A trade for a Dyson would more than make up for this or adding a good reliever even. Sitting on the sidelines though because nothing is the right price is a recipe for ending up empty handed
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 You forgot the fact that he's going to play in Cleveland of all places. He went from 4/80 guaranteed in playing for a city that he liked and is not a total dump to 3/65 (potentially 4/80) guaranteed. His agent totally dropped the ball The call was Edwin's, not Kinzer's. Edwin made his peace with leaving when he declined the offer. He was willing to change cities to make sure that there was nothing better on the market, which is likely all it will cost him.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 but do Morales + Pearce + Smoak put up more WAR than Edwin?Smoak is irrelevant in this discussion.
nmrch Verified Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Cleveland gives him a better chance of winning for the next 3 years than Toronto does... I think that's far less important to players in baseball than other sports. Its very hard to predict the strength of teams more than a year into the future, and even that is very unreliable.
Gary Verified Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 but do Morales + Pearce + Smoak put up more WAR than Edwin? Can we add Thole to this equation too please?
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 So happy he didn't wind up in Texas. I can honestly cheer for the Indians and wish him best of luck there. I'll definitely be sad to see the parrot go though.
jerb Verified Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Joe Sheehan @joe_sheehan This also makes the Morales signing look much worse. #bluejays have Morales and Smoak for .75 Encarnacion. Blech.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 lol ECJF has become a Sportsnet comments level casual lol
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Why is this only about Morales? Pearce is a better, cheaper player that we got too ya know... I'll wager $50 that Morales + Pearce puts up more WAR than Edwin next season. If Gibby resists the urge to be a retard and plays Pearce every day instead of platooning with Smoak, I'd wager that Pearce alone puts up more WAR than Edwin.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 ECJF has become a Sportsnet comments level casual lol I've noticed. At first I had trouble deciding if he's trolling but then he has these moments where he vents all his dumb thoughts. SIGN EVERYONE!!! IF NOT, FIRE SHATKINS!!1!

Good choice selectively ignoring that Edwin is a DH and thus extracts WAR out of the hardest position to extract WAR from Very nice bias posting

Right I know what you're saying he it was his call but his Agent probably told him to turn it down to get more money elsewhere... clearly that wasn't the case. This screams what happened with Steven Drew a few years ago when he turned down the Boston offer and he signed back for less and it came out that he turned it down because Boras told him he'll get money elsewhere
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Fire Shatkins Pathetic ..... you do know that we offered more guaranteed right ?

Well he's a pretty bad agent. He went on the JB show like 5 times in the last month basically telling everyone how the negotiations were going. There are so many things he could have done better.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Smoak is irrelevant in this discussion. why? as far as Edwin's concerned, there's a logjam at 1b/dh/slow-footed-benchwarmer when you include the man the front office felt the urgency to lock up for over $8 m.

Cleveland basically has a cake walk to the division title next year and I can't see another team overtaking them in 2018 either. Thats 2/3 of his contract.

I don't think any of us have nearly enough information to evaluate how good an agent he is.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Jays and Eddie's agent f***ed this up. Jays went in with a big offer early, knowing that it would get rejected. Kinzler overplayed his hand and rejected. Jays signed Morales right away and couldn't pull their offer to Eddie fast enough. Result. Bye bye Eddie.

If you asked people in the baseball industry you would hear the same thing... And considering how he handled EE (his only high profile player) I think its fair to say he should not be representing players looking for big contracts.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Do we know what pick we get since he signed?
Gary Verified Member Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 From KR: Second correction (apologies): Sources say Edwin with #Indians is three years, $60M, including $5M buyout. Option valued at $25M. Max: $80M.
