TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 “You always understand when you leave talented players unprotected*there’s a chance they can get selected,” Stearns said. “Miguel is a talented player. We felt as though he’s a long way from the major leagues. “He’s never pitched above the Midwest League. It’s very unusual for guys to be able to make that jump. It’s certainly possible that Miguel is the exception to that rule. The Padres obviously saw something they like about him. “We have to be prepared for that but it would be the exception to the norm if someone is able to make that jump successfully and contribute at the major-league level.” I have to admit I go through the lists of pitchers that I think should get selected and almost never get one right (do a little better on the hitters) but Milwaukee piling up on injured players and former spects just seems like a terrible method and not worth losing younger guys. It's not like they have a couple guys that might find it late. But they have Nolin, Josmii, Susac, Andy Wilkins, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Rymer Liriano. Even not trading CCC last year seems short sighted.

A good 10 of those extra 15 roster spots on the 40 man are prospects who aren't going to make the team
