Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 What is Shatkins' infatuation with this guy? Is he like a son in law or something?
rydermike Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Hey Kevin, I know you're bummed about losing the GG to KK again. We've got a solution, you're going to play two OF positions at the same time next season. Maybe you'll win two Gold Gloves
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 What is Shatkins' infatuation with this guy? Is he like a son in law or something? Laughed out loud for real.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I understand getting LHB and all, but we are just destroying our defence and mobility. This is not looking good at all.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 If the Mets are going to dump him for nothing, then it might be fine value on a one year deal. Maybe he has a Trumbo type of season when he sees dollar signs next winter. But yeah, aim higher.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 If he's FREE in trade then maybe it's fine. It's just money, maybe they can squeeze some value out of him via platoon w/ Upton. I honestly don't think they are that interested though. These stories on Bruce-Jays have been around for so f***ing long. It's like Toronto is just being used to try to drum up his value, since Toronto is an ostensible fit for him. Well they did pull the trigger to trade for him last year....
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 His DRS is fine ? -11 last year. I think he'd be a good target to play 1st base. Just have to get rid of Smoak.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 There has to be something they see that we don't with Bruce. Batted ball profile, exit velocity.....anyone know? I mean, he's a good enough hitter, but his defence is so bad that it negates a lot of it. If they get an outfielder from the Mets, let's hope it's Granderson.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 wRC+ 124 vs RHP and was really good except for August. If you could get Bruce for quite literally just eating his salary for a season he'd make an OK platoon piece in LF with Upton. That ~120 wRC+ against RHP would be a nice add to the middle of our lineup. I think if you do this you need to add someone like Fowler to the team though so that you're one lengthening the lineup, two adding stability to the daily lineup and three creating depth in case Bruce or Pillar gets injured and you need to run Pompey everyday.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 wRC+ 124 vs RHP and was really good except for August. They also traded for him last winter when he was coming off wRC+ of 98 and 88 in 2015 and 2014 respectively against RHP. I guess it's a good thing that they forecasted an offensive bounce back from him, but they seem to like him a lot more than they should. But yeah, getting him in a dump and platooning him with Upton wouldn't be a terrible option given what's out there.

He had 0 DRS in CF last year. Granted, he played 0.1 innings there but if you extrapolate that over a full season he's a league average center fielder. Certainly not a bad option given the price tag and offence!
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Well they did pull the trigger to trade for him last year.... For a Michael Saunders who we weren't sure could even jog properly back then. Not exactly saying a lot about how much they valued Bruce.

Ultimate Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I'm assuming it's because Mets are eating half his salary and Jays aren't getting that nice payroll increase everyone thought they were so they need to settle for replacement level players. Why would the Mets pick up half his salary when they could have just not picked up his option?
ILikeSoccerandBaseball09 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 FO as always loved Bruce even in the AA days. Jon Morosi November 2014:Blue Jays are, however, working to add a left-handed bat to their lineup. One name they are talking about: Jay Bruce.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Maybe we trade Morales for Bruce ..then sign EE and Jansen I would be fine with that. This isn't allowed... you can't sign and trade in baseball, lol.

I don't get this outlook by some folk on here... why would the Mets pick up his team option at 13 million, to just give him away, they would've just bought him out at 1 million or whatever it was? They obviously see 13 million reasons of value in him, I just hope the Jays don't.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 We should pursue Granderson as well. He's make for a slightly better addition.

I guess if they can get any sort of prospect(s) in return, then picking up the option at 13M would have proven more beneficial than buying him out for 1M.

Sure. But Spanky was responding to a guy who said "If you could get Bruce for quite literally just eating his salary for a season". Thus his comment.

I guess the only motivation for the Mets in that scenario is to save the 1M buyout.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 It's gotta be his first name, the marketing department is all over it!!! Lol Can't be his play...

We lost Brett Cecil so we're down a double first name guy. Devon Travis, Russell Martin, Josh Donald's Son...have to keep the trend going.

My use of just eating his salary would be the only way I could really stomach Toronto acquiring Bruce.
