Gary Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 The #Blue Jays are among the teams making a push for Jay Bruce, sources say. They're in serious need of corner OF help.
Gary Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Author Posted November 29, 2016 Is this from a source you know Gary? Buster Olney re-tweeted it.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Doesn't say anything we didn't already know.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Can somebody else trade for him already. f*** off. No Bruce
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Can somebody else trade for him already. f*** off. No Bruce Just thinking about it gives me nightmares. What can they possibly see in him to put him in the outfield. He's worse than Saunders and he was excruciating to watch out there in 2016.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Christ - make this go away please.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I really don't know what to think about Bruce. I kinda feel, if properly platooned with someone like Upton, he's more valuable than the metrics indicate. I wouldn't want to really give up anything of consequence though.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I'm assuming it's because Mets are eating half his salary and Jays aren't getting that nice payroll increase everyone thought they were so they need to settle for replacement level players.
Gary Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Author Posted November 29, 2016 Bruce could hit 35 HR at Rogers Centre.

Where's the guy that was trying to argue that Joe Carter having a -2 WAR season didn't matter because of rbi totals? He'd be happy with Bruce.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Bruce could hit 35 HR at Rogers Centre. And give up 35 runs with his defence. As a DH I might've been interested...but we already have one of those now...at a cheaper rate. If they're seriously looking to acquire Bruce, the price tag had better be very low.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Bruce could hit 35 HR at Rogers Centre. Maybe, but that defense really squashes any type of offensive value he could give us. If he was going to be our DH, sure, but Morales is there.. If we could teach him to play 1st competently, maybe I would bite at that, but trotting him out in LF/RF each night sounds horrendous in every way.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This would be pretty bad guys.

He's gotta be better than Colabello was in LF.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This would be pretty bad guys. Imagine if we gave up anything of substance to get him as well? I would be pissed even giving up someone like Rios for him.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Maybe we trade Morales for Bruce ..then sign EE and Jansen
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 He's gotta be better than Colabello was in LF. Being better than Cola in the OF still doesn't make it OK for him to be in the OF.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Maybe we trade Morales for Bruce ..then sign EE and Jansen I would be fine with that.

If he's FREE in trade then maybe it's fine. It's just money, maybe they can squeeze some value out of him via platoon w/ Upton. I honestly don't think they are that interested though. These stories on Bruce-Jays have been around for so f***ing long. It's like Toronto is just being used to try to drum up his value, since Toronto is an ostensible fit for him.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Maybe we trade Morales for Bruce ..then sign EE and Jansen Can't until mid year.

We can only hope my friend. I just hate that there's a realistic chance he's a negative asset, with respect to his contract, next season. Even absorbing the contract and giving up no prospect capital is risky.

I feel like the combination of Bruce and Upton could approach just north of 2 WAR if used right (counting a strict platoon at the one position, not other playing time that Upton gets as well). You probably get a 120 wRC+ bat with slightly negative defense before positional adjustment, assuming Bruce has figured stuff out and doesn't regress to 2014/2015 offensive approach. There's a LOT of other options I'd prefer, but I think the general doom and gloom could be a little exaggerated.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 If we traded for Billy Hamilton - then I could stomach Bruce playing RF for the Jays...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 If this is true, it can only mean one thing... the Jays are embarking on a rebuild. Bruce is just a stopgap that might put bums in the seats cuz home runs! I have no problem with a couple of years of mediocrity while the rebuild happens. Only reason the Jays were contenders the last few years is the big three EE, JD, and JB were all seriously underpaid.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 If we traded for Billy Hamilton - then I could stomach Bruce playing RF for the Jays... If we traded for Billy Hamilton, we could probably go with a 5 man infield.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 If we traded for Billy Hamilton, we could probably go with a 5 man infield. Pillar as the left CF and Hamilton as the right CF: 6-win OF defense
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Bruce could hit 35 HR at Rogers Centre. He could hit 60, but they play 81 games on the road. He probably caps out right where he is and he plays the outfield like stevie wonder with two right hands. Morales is likely a better outfielder and that is saying something.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Pillar as the left CF and Hamilton as the right CF: 6-win OF defense Hamilton equals small ball, Blue Jays froth over long ball...
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Maybe we trade Morales for Bruce ..then sign EE and Jansen This isn't MLB The Show 16... even they may not let you trade Morales for Bruce until mid season

You guys DO know that the Great American Small Park is more home run friendly than Rogers Centre, right? He probably gets a road boost from playing games in Yankee Stadium and Boston, but overall numbers are probably right about where he was last year home run wise.
